School Security Officer
ACES Bassett Road School
ACES Bassett Road School is currently accepting applications for the position of School Security Officer. Prior law enforcement and/or security experience is highly preferred, but not required.
About ACES Bassett Road School
ACES Bassett Road School is a specialized educational campus that combines programming from ACES Village School and SAILS EIBI (Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention).
The ACES Village School program serves students who benefit from a therapeutic, structured, and relationship-centered environment, with a focus on social-emotional learning, behavioral supports, and academic growth.
The SAILS EIBI program provides intensive, evidence-based services for students with autism and related developmental needs, utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to build communication, social, and functional life skills.
Together, the campus creates a highly supportive, collaborative, and student-centered environment where safety, structure, and consistency are essential. The School Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a secure and welcoming setting for students, staff, and visitors.
Position Overview
The School Security Officer will work closely with building administration and the ACES Director of Security to help maintain a safe and secure campus environment. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a busy, dynamic school setting.
Schedule
- 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Flexibility required for evenings and weekends during school events
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid State of Connecticut Security Officer License (required)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated interest in supporting the safety and well-being of children and adults
- Ability to work in a fast-paced school environment with a flexible schedule
Key Responsibilities
- Greet, screen, and manage entry of visitors, staff, and guests in accordance with established procedures
- Monitor security and environmental systems; investigate and report incidents as needed
- Collaborate with administration on incident response and emergency preparedness
- Identify and address unauthorized individuals; take appropriate action to protect students, staff, and property
- Enforce ACES policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment
- Conduct regular interior and exterior patrols of the campus
- Serve as a visible deterrent to inappropriate or unsafe behavior
- Document security activities and complete incident reports as required
- Monitor facility equipment and alarms; report issues and assist with minor troubleshooting as directed
- Operate phones, radios, and other communication systems effectively
- Assist in training staff on safety and security practices
- Perform other related duties as assigned

- Reports to the Building Administrator and the ACES Director of Security

Preferred (but not required):
- Prior law enforcement, corrections, or security experience
- Previous school security experience
- Experience working with students with special needs, including behavioral or developmental challenges

- Demonstrate the ability to enforce ACES Governing Board and school policies and procedures in a professional, consistent, and diplomatic manner
- Be proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word, and able to operate standard office equipment (e.g., copiers, printers, scanners)
- Maintain a positive attitude and work effectively both independently and as part of a team-oriented environment
- Exhibit confidence and professionalism when interacting with the general public
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff at all levels of the organization
- Be available to provide shift coverage on short notice and work overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing tasks appropriately
- Maintain strict confidentiality and protect student information in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
