$46,220.72 - $64,709.01The Security Officer is the main link between AMC Security Services and all people served. In the course of their duties, and especially while on patrol, the officer assumes many roles and provides numerous essential services. Security Officers are expected to provide the highest quality of professional service to all "customers" (employees, students, visitors, patients and others). While on patrol, as an "ambassador" for AMC, officers are expected to always present a professional image. This includes being well informed, courteous and promptly taking necessary action.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Upholds AMC standards in providing exceptional service to all “customers”
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor and ensures effective communication (verbal and written), at all times.
  • Patrols throughout assigned zones/posts; regularly engages people (i.e. offers assistance to visitors and employees)
  • Responds to all assigned incidents in a timely manner. Thoroughly investigates and properly documents information.
  • Identifies issues requiring attention (i.e. facility problems, malfunctions, security concerns) and takes appropriate action, including notifying supervision.
  • Ensures compliance with AMC policies and procedures (i.e. no smoking, parking, ID card display/use), as well as The Joint Commission standards.
  • Ensures that access points, doors, offices and other areas are properly secured.
  • Controls access to facilities; secures unsecure areas and documents for referral.
  • Handles traffic direction and control (i.e. automobile accidents, construction, special details).
  • Use of verbal de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts.
  • Restraining of individuals who pose a safety risk, collaboratively with medical staff when needed.
  • Obtains information from employees involved in misconduct/criminal activity.
  • Performs escorts, fire watches and/or dispatcher functions, as required.
  • Performs other tasks, including special details, as assigned by supervision.
  • Communicates all significant incidents to Security Administration.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Security Administration.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
  • 1-3 years in a hospital environment - preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Must possess good judgement, emotional control, objectivity and sounds decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations and when dealing with uncertainty.
  • Must possess effective computer knowledge and skills, as well as report writing skills.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position without or with reasonable accommodation.
  • NYS security guard registration Upon Hire - required
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire - required

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
