Every site is approached with professionalism, consistency, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Our strength lies in our people. Every role contributes to the outstanding level of service we are known for, and each individual brings unique value to our team. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to creating a workplace where individuals can develop meaningful, long-term careers.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Guardteck’s security team and be part of the impactful work we do.
The Security Guard is responsible for delivering professional front-line security services within a multi-tenant commercial property, ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for tenants, visitors, and contractors. This role supports effective building operations by managing access control systems, enforcing site safety protocols, and maintaining order throughout ongoing construction and renovation activities.
The position requires a balanced approach to security, customer service, and operational efficiency, acting as a key point of contact while protecting property, assets, and people. The Security Guard is expected to uphold Guardteck’s core values by demonstrating accountability, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
• Respond to tenant, visitor, and contractor inquiries professionally and calmly, as security staff are often the first point of contact (front desk / concierge standard).
• Understand and operate access control systems, including key card / fob systems, access permissions (tenant vs visitor vs contractor levels), door alarms, overrides, and lockdown procedures.
• Administer visitor management systems, including sign-in logs, ID verification, and pass issuance.
• Ensure only authorized individuals access restricted areas at all times.
• Work effectively within a commercial environment that involves multiple tenants with different access rules, high visitor turnover, sensitive corporate environments, and shared infrastructure (parking, elevators, loading docks), while supporting privacy and business continuity expectations.
• Balance safety, tenant experience, and operational flow in a dynamic, multi-tenant setting.
• Support site security operations during ongoing renovations beyond the end of 2027.
• Effectively manage all contractor and construction-related activity on site, ensuring strict access control, safety compliance, and site protection.
• Verify all contractors against approved lists and ensure valid ID, company confirmation, and work authorization before granting entry.
• Monitor and restrict access to designated construction zones only, preventing entry into tenant, mechanical, or restricted areas.
• Respond to tenant complaints related to construction noise, disruptions, or after-hours work by attending the area, assessing the situation, and escalating or documenting as required.
Required Qualifications
• Valid British Columbia Security License (or ability to obtain prior to start).
• Strong English communication skills (verbal + written reports).
• Ability to manage tenant, visitor, and contractor inquiries in a professional, front-facing environment.
• Knowledge of access control systems, including key card/fob systems and visitor management platforms.
• Understanding of access permissions and authorization levels (tenant, visitor, contractor).
• Ability to operate door alarms, overrides, and lockdown procedures.
• Experience working in multi-tenant commercial environments with high visitor traffic.
• Ability to manage contractor access, verify credentials, and enforce restricted areas.
• Strong observation skills with accurate incident reporting and documentation.
• Comfortable working independently while balancing safety, tenant experience, and operational flow.
Preferred Qualifications
• 1+ year experience in commercial, corporate, or concierge-style security roles.
• Experience working in construction or renovation environments.
• Familiarity with high-traffic, multi-tenant buildings and shared infrastructure (parking, elevators, loading docks).
• Experience handling tenant complaints, including noise or disruption concerns.
• Knowledge of privacy and business continuity expectations in corporate environments.
• Experience with digital reporting systems and visitor management platforms.
• First Aid/CPR or similar safety certifications are an asset.
