Summary

The City of Jersey City (“The City”) is seeking a Security Guard for the Division of Recreation in the Department of Recreation & Youth Development. This position, under direction, patrols the grounds, buildings, and other areas and facilities of schools, libraries, museums, hospitals, public housing projects, parks, or other public facilities and installations to provide protection to persons gathered therein from harm and guards and protects the public property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal or unauthorized entry; does other related duties as required.

Examples of duties

• Bag checks
• Identify visitors and ask for appropriate documents when needed
• Supervision of youth and community groups
• Enforce all rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility
• Assist in crowd control
• Social distance ambassador
• Keeping record of visitors including time of arrival and departure
• Observes individuals entering and leaving premises to ensure their safe and orderly conduct
• Patrolling the premises regularly to ensure nothing is out of place
• Liaising with law enforcement in the case of suspected or reported criminal activity
• Performing scheduled and random checks of designated areas throughout the facility to check for any security breaches
• Assisting other staff with securing an area during a maintenance or other emergency
• Responding to any distress calls and/or alarms
• Follow instructions of supervisor(s) on site
• Take action based on the situation, known facts, and position limitations
• Write reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards and other security related situations to advise of corrective and/or follow-up actions
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Experience: Prior work with the Jersey City Board of Education or previous security experience.?

Required License: Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver’s license and NJ SORA Certification.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

• Must not have worked for The City of Jersey City in the last six (6) months
• Prior work with the Jersey City Board of Education or previous security experience
• Minimum 21 years of age
• Responsible
• Must be able to work in a professional manner
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to stand on feet for extended time periods
• Comfortable walking and standing for extended periods of time.
