Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Security Guard is responsible for safeguarding the hotel, its guests, associates, visitors, and assets through proactive patrols, monitoring security systems, responding to incidents, and supporting emergency response activities. The role requires maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, confidentiality, and guest service while ensuring compliance with company policies, workplace health and safety requirements, and applicable Papua New Guinea employment and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct regular patrols of guest areas, public spaces, hotel grounds, perimeter boundaries, and back-of-house areas to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor CCTV systems, fire life safety systems, alarms, access control systems, and other security equipment.
  • Control and monitor entry and exit points for guests, associates, contractors, and visitors.
  • Assist guests with access issues, directions, inquiries, and security-related concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, accidents, disturbances, thefts, safety hazards, and security breaches.
  • Assist with emergency response procedures, including fire evacuations, power outages, bomb threats, natural disasters, and other critical incidents.
  • Complete accurate incident reports, shift reports, investigation records, and daily security activity logs.
  • Conduct hazard inspections and identify, report, and follow up on safety risks, maintenance issues, and unsafe conditions.
  • Support workplace health and safety initiatives by promoting hazard identification, risk reporting, and incident prevention.
  • Assist with investigations, evidence gathering, witness interviews, and documentation of security-related incidents.
  • Perform bag checks, locker inspections, and asset protection activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Escort unauthorized persons from hotel premises professionally and safely when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all security, guest, associate, and company information.
  • Communicate effectively with hotel departments, emergency services, contractors, and management regarding safety and security matters.
  • Support the Emergency Response Team and carry out assigned responsibilities during emergencies.
  • Maintain professional grooming, appearance, conduct, and customer service standards at all times.
  • Perform physical duties including extended walking, standing, stair climbing, and responding quickly to workplace situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 10 or Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, emergency services, hospitality security, or related fields is advantageous but not essential.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification would be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of CCTV systems, access control systems, and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety principles and risk management practices.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when managing emergencies, conflicts, and difficult situations.
  • Honest, trustworthy, and able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong observation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically fit and capable of standing, walking, patrolling, and performing manual duties throughout extended shifts.
  • Flexible and willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overnight duties as required
