Job Description

At Optus, security is everyone's responsibility. As we continue to strengthen our cyber, physical, and protective security capabilities, we're looking for a passionate and creative Security Culture & Engagement Lead to help embed security-first behaviours across our business.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how 10,000+ employees think about security, turning complex risks into engaging experiences that drive meaningful and lasting behaviour change.

What You'll Do

Partnering closely with the Associate Director, Cyber Culture & Capability and stakeholders across Cyber Security, Physical Security, Risk, People & Culture, and Internal Communications, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and execution of Optus' annual Security Culture and Engagement program across cyber security, physical security, and protective security.
  • Designing and delivering innovative awareness campaigns, communications, and events that make security visible, relevant, and actionable for employees.
  • Applying structured change management methodologies to drive adoption of security initiatives and embed secure behaviours across the organisation.
  • Building, growing, and activating a Security Champions network to create local advocates and strengthen security culture across business units.
  • Developing compelling multi-channel content across digital, video, intranet, leadership communications, social platforms, and events.
  • Planning and delivering flagship awareness events including Cyber Security Awareness Month and targeted campaigns aligned to emerging risks and business priorities.
  • Equipping leaders with tools, resources, and messaging to champion security behaviours within their teams.
  • Creating engaging training and learning experiences that improve awareness, capability, and compliance outcomes.
  • Measuring the effectiveness of campaigns and programs through engagement metrics, sentiment analysis, and behavioural indicators.
  • Partnering with risk, security, and communications teams to translate threat intelligence and human risk insights into meaningful employee engagement strategies.
  • Maintaining and enhancing security communication channels, including SharePoint and collaboration platforms, as trusted sources of security information.
  • Building external industry networks and staying informed on emerging trends in security culture, awareness, and behaviour change.

What You'll Bring

  • 3-5+ years' experience in internal communications, change management, culture programs, employee engagement, learning, or security awareness roles.
  • Demonstrated success delivering behaviour change initiatives using structured change methodologies such as PROSCI, ADKAR, or similar frameworks.
  • Proven ability to develop engaging content and campaigns for diverse audiences across multiple communication channels.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Experience planning and delivering events, campaigns, or engagement programs at scale.
  • Strong project management and organisational capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • A data-driven mindset with experience measuring engagement outcomes and using insights to continuously improve performance.
  • Creative thinking, storytelling capability, and a genuine passion for helping people make better security decisions.

Desirable

  • Experience in telecommunications, financial services, healthcare, government, or other regulated industries.
  • Change management certification such as PROSCI.
  • Experience managing employee ambassador or champion networks.
  • Exposure to cyber security, risk, privacy, physical security, or security awareness programs.
  • Familiarity with security awareness platforms, learning management systems, or behavioural analytics tools.

The Good Stuff...

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office and two days remote.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional Connected Days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever's important to you.
  • Inclusive, carer-neutral paid parental leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Access to Optus U's industry-focused learning and development programs.
  • Employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Free access to wellbeing, counselling and support services available 24/7.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and embracing individual differences. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive and do their best work.

If you're passionate about culture, communication, and helping people become the strongest line of defence against security risks, we'd love to hear from you.
