Job Description

The Security and Safety Coordinator assists the Chief of Security and Safety in planning, coordinating, and monitoring districtwide safety and security operations. The coordinator provides direct supervision to security personnel and supports emergency preparedness, incident response, investigations, regulatory compliance, and the protection of students, staff, visitors, and district property.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and monitoring daily district safety and security operations, ensuring staff adherence to district procedures, post orders, and safety protocols.

  • Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate security officers and other assigned security personnel.

  • Coordinate security coverage and monitor schools, facilities, parking areas, district property, athletic contests, graduations, and extracurricular events, including the use of surveillance, access-control, and alarm systems.

  • Respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and security breaches, taking command when designated and coordinating lockdown, evacuation, and shelter-in-place procedures.

  • Conduct or support investigations involving accidents, student misconduct, theft, vandalism, trespassing, disturbances, and policy violations, and assist administrators with related discipline matters.

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate incident reports, investigation records, and related safety documentation.

  • Conduct regular campus and facility safety assessments; identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements to procedures, equipment, and staffing.

  • Serve as a liaison among school administrators, law enforcement, fire departments, emergency responders, families, and community partners.

  • Participate in threat assessment teams, crisis response planning, and school safety committees.

  • Develop and support strategies that reduce safety incidents, strengthen school climate, and promote positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, district policies, and school security procedures, including visitor, contractor, and volunteer protocols.

  • Assist with departmental budget requests, equipment inventory, other operational needs, and additional duties assigned by the Chief of Security and Safety.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Three to five years of progressively responsible security experience, preferably in a school or public-sector setting.

Demonstrated knowledge of security operations, emergency management, investigations, risk assessment, and report writing.

Strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation skills.

Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions under pressure.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with security technology and reporting systems.

Valid driver's license required.
