Job Description

The Security Alarm System Technician III takes a leadership role in overseeing the planning, installation, and maintenance of advanced security and fire alarm systems. This position functions with minimal supervision and provides guidance to junior technicians. The technician ensures all systems, including access control and CCTV, are efficiently integrated and operational, contributing to lifecycle management strategies for a diverse range of facilities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation.

Strong understanding of low-voltage wiring, control panels, sensors, cameras, and networked security devices.

Maintain required certifications and proficiency for all supported systems such as including Hirsch, Honeywell Vindicator, Siemens Cerberus Pro, Avigilon, performance testing, and network (Cisco) certifications.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Leads the planning, installation, and maintenance of complex security and fire alarm systems.

Analyzes and resolves advanced technical issues, providing expert solutions.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams to design and implement system upgrades.

Develops and conducts training programs for lower-level technicians.

Manages documentation for system modifications and operational procedures.

Evaluates new technologies and recommends improvements to current systems.

Ensures that all installations and modifications comply with applicable codes and standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma and a minimum of four to seven (4-7) years of experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.   

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment. Will often need to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, or crawl spaces to install or repair systems, necessitating frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling. The job may require carrying and using tools and equipment, sometimes lifting items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Additionally, technicians often need to work on ladders or scaffolding, which involves maintaining balance and stability at heights. Precision and dexterity are crucial, as technicians must handle small components and wiring with care. The role demands good hand-eye coordination and the ability to distinguish colors for wiring purposes. Technicians may be required to spend long periods on their feet while troubleshooting and installing alarm systems. Environmental factors can also influence physical demands, as technicians might work in varying weather conditions when systems are on outdoor premises.
