Sector Controller

• Lead the preparation, analysis, and presentation of Sector financial information, forecasts, and business performance metrics to management and leadership.
• Partner with Sector leadership to provide financial analysis, business insights, and recommendations that support strategic decision-making and operational effectiveness.
• Provide inputs to Sector budgeting, forecasting, and annual operating plan processes, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and financial objectives.
• Analyze Sector financial trends, funding performance, revenue streams, project activity, and operational results to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives.
• Apply sound business judgment and an enterprise-wide perspective when evaluating financial implications, operational decisions, risks, and opportunities.
• Lead and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for the Sectors, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Direct the preparation of accruals, account reconciliations, and other close-related activities to ensure integrity of financial statements.
• Prepare and present Sector consolidated income statement and balance sheet reporting, including variance analysis and commentary for key financial results.
• Establish, maintain, and oversee accounting policies, procedures, and governance standards to ensure consistent accounting practices across domestic and international operations.
• Research, document, and implement complex accounting matters, new accounting pronouncements, and changes in US GAAP and IFRS.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and reporting requirements.
• Oversee financial management and reporting for EPRI International, Europe, and Gulf.
• Direct intercompany accounting activities and cross-border financial transactions, ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, documentation, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements, legal entity obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements across jurisdictions.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors regarding audit requests, process documentation, walkthroughs, testing activities, and remediation plans.
• Ensure international accounting activities comply with applicable US GAAP, IFRS, and local reporting requirements.
• Design, maintain, monitor, and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
• Monitor control effectiveness and lead remediation efforts for identified control deficiencies.
• Apply and reinforce financial and administrative policies, including accounting, timekeeping, travel and expense, procurement, and contract administration requirements.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on accounting policies and procedures, financial controls, and reporting requirements.
• Assist Finance leadership, Legal, and other business partners in evaluating financial, accounting, tax, and compliance implications of projects and programs.
• Provide financial oversight of contract and funding activities from proposal development through project completion.
• Provide guidance on project accounting, cost allocations, indirect rates, government-funded activities, and financial reporting requirements.
• Ensure financial and administrative requirements are met for externally funded projects and contractual agreements.
• Lead cash forecasting and cash-flow analysis for applicable operations and legal entities.
• Monitor interfaces and financial activity with external banking partners and support effective global cash management.
• Lead finance transformation initiatives, ERP enhancements, automation efforts, and accounting process standardization activities.
• Identify opportunities to centralize accounting functions, improve operational efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and enhance financial reporting capabilities.
• Utilize ERP systems, reporting tools, data warehouses, and analytical solutions to improve decision support and financial management processes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance scalability, accuracy, compliance, and overall organizational effectiveness.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and development for staff.
• Establish departmental and individual performance goals and expectations aligned with organizational objectives.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide regular feedback, and hold team members accountable for achieving results.
• Build organizational capability through talent development, succession planning, delegation, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.
• Master’s degree, MBA, and/or CPA designation preferred.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or financial analysis required.
• At least 6 years of experience managing staff required; experience leading accounting professionals and managers in a complex global operation strongly preferred.
• Experience with international accounting, legal entity reporting, statutory compliance, and cross-border business activities preferred.
• Experience working within not-for-profit organizations, government-funded environments, utility-related industries, or project-based organizations desirable.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles.
• Knowledge of IFRS, international accounting practices, statutory reporting requirements, and international compliance regulations.
• Comprehensive understanding of corporate accounting, operational accounting, project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Knowledge of internal controls, governance practices, and audit requirements.
• Familiarity with government-funded accounting environments, indirect cost structures, and proposal/reporting requirements desirable.
• Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, SAP (preferred), data analytics tools, Microsoft Office, and financial reporting systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.

The salary range for this position is $145,000 USD to $155,000 USD annually.This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program.
