This role is based at Amandelbult Complex, Tumela Mine and will be a Fixed Term Contract.

You will take responsibility for the maintenance of ventilation and occupational hygiene systems to ensure a safe and healthy working environment with at least 3 - 5 years practical experience in the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Field within a hard rock underground mining operation.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that legal requirements, Valterra Platinum standards and policies are adhered to thus achieving legal compliance.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining and managing all mandatory code of practices, ventilation and occupational hygiene related standards and procedures.
  • Maintain Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene strategies, systems and compliance measurements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits and risk management.
  • Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions on ventilation and occupational hygiene related issues.
  • Develop and review ventilation layouts in line with the Valterra Platinum guidelines timeously.
  • Assist in long-term ventilation and occupational hygiene planning (life of mine).
  • Provide technical support to the project management team in any matters arising concerning Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene
  • Develop and maintain ventilation simulation models for current and future project business plan requirement.
  • Extensive report writing skills to provide clarity w.r.t. Ventilation and Refrigeration requirements to the project management team.

This role is at a D1 level reporting to the Shaft Ventilation Engineer

Qualifications

You will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 with Maths & Science.
  • Elementary certificate in Mine Environmental Control
  • Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (Paper 1 and 2).
  • Chamber of Mines (COM) Certificate in Mine Environmental Control ( At least 3 Papers min).
  • Membership of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa.
  • Extensive computer literacy in MS Office, Vuma 3D and VentSim.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • At least 3 - 5 years practical experience in the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Field within a hard rock underground mining operation.
  • Active role in projects planning and Mechanized mining will be advantageous.
  • Formal training or practical experience in: Occupational Health legislation, Management system formulation and implementation, Hazard identification and risk assessment, specialised technical programs will be advantageous.
