Job Description

Con Edisons Supply Chain organization is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee the Transmission and Distribution Materials and Equipment team. This team employs a strategic sourcing and category management approach across a diverse portfolio of procurements, leveraging research, data analysis, planning, and strong stakeholder engagement to deliver value, meet business needs, drive process improvements, and achieve cost efficiencies. The Section Manager will also lead sustainability and small and local business inclusion strategies across assigned categories, reinforcing Con Edisons broader operational and social objectives.

The Section Manager is responsible for directing procurement activities for both Con Edison of New York and Orange and Rockland Utilities, providing strategic, commercial, and administrative leadership across key commodities. This role ensures compliance, efficient approvals, and strong governance, while also fostering team development through training, mentorship, and career guidance. In close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, and senior leadership, the Section Manager will address inquiries, drive continuous improvement, and advance strategic initiatives ensuring alignment with Supply Chains mission while delivering measurable cost savings, operational efficiencies, and overall business value.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse team of Procurement Specialists in the procurement activities in areas associated with materials, equipment, and associated services as related to capital projects and/or operations and maintenance to maximize potential savings.
  • Provide guidance in development of sourcing strategies and directs the preparation of bid invitations and other related purchasing documents evaluates vendor proposals and bids and makes award recommendations and approves authorizations in accordance with the Delegation of Authority.
  • Supervise the performance of associated commercial and economic evaluations of supplier bids and proposals.
  • Respond to inquiries from leadership, Auditing, and other internal/external stakeholders. Follows up on audit reports to determine compliance with audit recommendations or implementation of alternate solutions.
  • Develop personnel to achieve maximum efficiency, value add and productivity by leading, managing, counseling and initiating appropriate training.
  • Review resource plan, establish priorities and adjusts workload as required to utilize workforce to support various internal business organizations.
  • Available to perform occasional off hour emergency Supply Chain team leader functions, some of which may require working extended or non traditional hours.
  • Perform other related assignments and meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators as required by leadership.
  • Maintain and enhance partnerships and engagement with key stakeholders including executives, customers, and suppliers.
  • Develop and lead strategic efforts that focus on sustainability and small and local business supplier engagement.
  • Lead strategic sourcing and category management initiatives to optimize procurement strategies, cost efficiency, and supply continuity.
  • Lead emergency events as the Supply Chain representative and ensures the Company has sufficient material and equipment. Establish a strong partnership with Stores Operations (Warehouse) and support their business needs.
  • Lead and manage a team, providing direction, coaching, and performance oversight to achieve business objectives.
  • Monitor supplier performance, capacity, and risk factors to ensure alignment with operational, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Lead Supplier Relationship Management by establishing strategic partnerships, driving supplier performance, and mitigating supply and operational risk.
  • Serve as a visible safety leader aligned to Con Edisons enterprise priority of protecting employees, contractors, and the public embedding zero harm principles into all sourcing, contracting, and supplier management decisions.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Economics, or Engineering, or an equivalent field. and 8+ years of relevant work experience, and 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • 8-10 years relevant work experience, required.
  • 3-5 years experience managing people, required.
  • Ability to plan and organize workloads as well as excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, required.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office products, required.
  • Knowledge of Oracle, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, and meet with suppliers as needed.
