This role is based in Mokopane, Limpopo

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and implement operational strategies and an integrated communication plan for the complex aligned to Valterra Platinum’s business strategy.
  • Implement an Operating Model communication plan (with support from the communication lead) for the complex and embed in the operation.
  • Support the leadership team and line management in executing their communication responsibilities.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications to support Platinum and Group initiatives.
  • Gather, prepare and gain approval of content for our channels, newsletters, community newspapers, website, etc.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met for our regular employee publications.
  • Active engagement across the operation to identify communications opportunities.
  • Review all internal and external publications to ensure consistency of message and quality of output
  • Overall responsibility for Operations content on the Engage app, and driving employee take-up and engagement on the app.
  • Regular updates on the Engage app to ensure content is up-to-date, relevant and engaging.
  • Identify issues impacting the operation and develop communication interventions as required (e.g., safety campaigns).
  • Responsiveness to senior management requests and relevance of advice and approach provided.
  • Awareness of company strategy and actions amongst employees (e.g. employee surveys and communicating results).
  • Do environmental scanning and analysis and guide Corporate Communication on operational risks and issues that may require an integrated response.
  • Accurate portrayal of operations.
  • Team costs managed within budget.
  • Responsiveness to operational requests for support for Social Performance and other teams within the business in their engagement efforts.
  • Coordinates crisis communication on site and work closely together with corporate communication to support them in responding to media queries and requests.
  • As the custodian of the Valterra Platinum brand, takes responsibility and ownership to ensure compliance across the Complex.
  • Support the HOD team in the delivery of communications to all employees and manage internal and external events as and when required.
  • Sustainability & Social
    • Drive delivery of sustainability activities as relevant to discipline and set out in the Life of Asset Plan to improve sustainability performance over time.
    • Put in place sufficient physical and financial resources and coordinate delivery of Sustainable Mining Plan commitments relevant to discipline.
    • Manage compliance with environmental and social requirements as relevant to discipline, including commitments to stakeholders.
    • Identify environmental and social risks triggered by or impacting on discipline and propose mitigation techniques to be incorporated in the asset risk management approach
    • Identify environmental and social opportunities relevant for work area and then introduce and monitor sustainability initiatives
    • Foster awareness of environmental and social sustainability within team and consider full impact of decisions

Qualifications

  • Degree / Diploma in Communications, Journalism
  • Post graduate qualification advantageous

Experience and Technical knowledge

  • 5-7 years’ experience, of which 3 years’ experience in leading and supporting the delivery of effective communications strategies
  • Mining industry experience would be advantageous.
  • Experience in managing digital channels and drive audience engagement
  • Experience in the development of integrated communication plans in a complex environment.
  • Track record in issuing briefs.
  • Proven experience of interfacing with and influencing colleagues and senior management.
  • Experience in working with different cultures and business environments.
  • Experience in newspaper/newsletter publishing.
  • Remains abreast of latest developments in technology and social media to use it to the benefit of the business.
  • Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence
