Section Manager 2 - 2nd Shift - HOLT Manufacturing

Department: Machine Division (MAC)

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Waco Mfg and Rebuild


The Section Manager 2 is responsible for managing various disciplines of manufacturing processes and coordinating daily production schedule and activities to create a safe and innovative environment for manufacturing operations (one to two product lines). In addition, oversees assignment of work while verifying tooling requirements, costs, and quality standards are being met and linking communication between strategy and operations.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Hires, develops, evaluates, and influences effective and consistent productivity and teamwork to ensure the delivery of Legendary Customer Service (LCS) and product/service to defined quality levels
  • Plans, monitors, controls, and manages personnel to established production and quality control standards for specifications and delivery dates of products/services
  • Monitors staffing needs to meet workflow and customer requirements to maintain the effective operations and cost factors
  • Initiates and conducts process improvement communication with team members and management staff; daily start up meetings and communicates touch point to relay operational status, safety, and quality callouts and/or follow-up
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of staffing, machines, and equipment
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and identifies production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems based on specific performance criteria
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality – practice and teach processes to drive Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) identification and continuous improvement
  • Coordinates RIW (Rapid Improvement Workshop) or Kaizen mini events to promote innovation and process improvements (safety, quality, efficiency)
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems; manage priorities to meet schedules and production requirements
  • Implements various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Preventive Maintenance (PM), Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, ISO certification, etc.
  • Maintains and report out on KPI (Key Process Indicators) for area/product
  • Consults with engineering staff relative to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products
  • Directs, manages, and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and policies
  • Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles, processes, tools, manufacturing, operations, and asset acquisition with ability to teach and conceptualize
  • Ability to improve processes and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities
  • Knowledge in analyzing manufacturing operations for continual process improvements while establishing standards and quality controls to efficiently deliver product to the customer through the safest and most cost effect methods
  • Knowledge in managing in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Computer and related software knowledge and/or experience and the ability to learn/use new computer programs and Microsoft Office product proficiency
  • Ability to take an active role in self-development and evaluate, assess, and identify development needs for team to include cross training, skills matrix, etc.
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of manufacturing operations management or related experience required
  • Associates Degree in Business or Management preferred or equivalent combination and education in Manufacturing Operations or related field
  • A minimum of two years prior strategic planning and supervisory experience is strongly preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, training and development of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints/concerns and resolving problems, and ensuring consistent application of organizational needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position involves extended periods in a stationary position and majority of time on production floor/environment
  • Role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment:

  • This job is generally performed in a manufacturing/production environment, in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Occasionally works outdoors and may be exposed to weather extremes conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Frequently works at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
  • Requires dealing with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people
