SUMMARY OF THE ASSIGNED DUTIES,

INCLUDING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

Reporting directly to the Head of Regional Bureau (RB)or Liaison office, the incumbent will be the driver to the Head of RB or Liaison office, responsible for ensuring the security, condition and maintenance of the official vehicle.

The incumbent will be at the disposition of the Head of RB or Liaison office in order to transport him/her, with a maximum of security, to all official engagements and in a professional capacity. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that the official vehicle is maintained in excellent working condition at all times.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES

• Act as the driver to the Head of the RB or Liaison office, strictly respecting defined itineraries, unless modifications need to be made for security reasons.
• Under the direction of the Head of RB or Liaison office, drive the Head of RB or Liaison office to scheduled professional meetings and appointments.
• All transport services are provided exclusively in support of the Head of RB's professional capacity and official duties. Any personal, private or family transportation are not in the scope.
• Be responsible for planning routes and travel schedules, verifying the traffic situation and driving conditions and ensuring that an appropriate timeframe is allocated for travel to destination.
• Be responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and regular servicing of the official vehicle.
• Ensure that the official vehicle is serviced on a regular basis and well maintained.
• Ensure that the vehicle meets all the legal requirements in force in the country i.e. adheres to pollution regulations.
• Inform the Head of RB or Liaison office of any mechanical problems with the official vehicle and propose solutions for the Head of RB or Liaison office’s consideration.
• Provide the Head of RB or Liaison office with the necessary information regarding any repair work that may need to be carried out on the official vehicle.
• As directed by the Head of RB or Liaison office, collect visitors to the RB or Liaison office from the airport and transfer them to their hotel.
• As directed by the Head of RB or Liaison office, collect important visitors to the RB or Liaison office from the airport and transfer them to their hotel. In this respect, verify arrival times of flights and adapt accordingly to any eventual modifications in flight schedules.
• Offer visitors he/she is accompanying any assistance they may require with their transportation, and be capable of providing them with basic information regarding the location of certain key services.
• Be responsible for the security of the official vehicle at all times whilst on official duty.
• Never leave the official vehicle unattended whilst on duty, and carry out a thorough security check of the vehicle. Ensure that all security measures are taken and/or in place before embarking on an official assignment.
• Ensure that upon completion of his/her daily duties that the vehicle is returned to its official location when not in use.
• Deliver official or urgent documents, collect official documents from administrations or government offices. May transfer RB or Liaison office personnel from one location to another in the context of their professional activities
• Perform any other duties as instructed by the hierarchy.

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Education and qualification required

• Driving qualifications, preferably from a police training school, to drive all categories of vehicles.
• A police security background or training is also required.
• Clean driving license.

Experience required:

• At least 1 year of experience in the area of security and driving within a police or similar international organization is required. A longer experience (e.g. 3 to 5 years) would be an asset.

languages REQUIRED

• Working knowledge of English.
• Knowledge of any other language of the organization (Arabic, French or Spanish) would be an asset.

Abilities required

• A high degree of flexibility is required, given the irregular hours for such a post.
• A highly developed sense of observation in order to anticipate any potential problems.
• Ability to react quickly as and when the need arises.
• Ability to anticipate potential difficulties relating to security, traffic conditions etc.
• Discretion, confidentiality, diplomacy, tact.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Smart appearance

As part of our commitment to transparency throughout our recruitment process, INTERPOL's Staff Manual Regulation 11.4: Age-limit, which states that:

'Officials of the Organization shall not normally be retained in service beyond the age of 65 years. The Secretary General may, in exceptional cases and in the interests of the Organization, extend this age limit, in which case he shall inform the official concerned sufficiently in advance.'

Given this Regulation and in case candidates reach the age of 65 during the potential duration of the appointment, should they be selected for the position and the process proceed to appointment, the employment period may be affected by this regulatory limit and may therefore not extend for the full standard contract duration as published in the vacancy notice.
