The 2nd Assistant Superintendent supports the daily management of golf course maintenance operations, including turf care, irrigation systems, chemical applications, and team leadership. Working closely with the Superintendent, this position plays a key role in maintaining the course to the highest standards of conditioning and playability.
This opportunity is especially exciting as the Club prepares for a major golf course renovation beginning in Fall 2026. The project will include significant enhancements to the back nine, along with comprehensive infrastructure improvements such as irrigation, drainage, routing, and bunkering. The renovation will be led by Erik Larsen, former project architect for Arnold Palmer, ensuring a thoughtful and high-quality transformation. In addition, the Club will introduce a new 6-hole short course designed to elevate the overall golf experience.
Located in Jacksonville, Florida, Deerwood Country Club features a championship 18-hole course, expansive practice facilities, and a full suite of amenities including tennis, aquatics, and multiple dining venues. Job purpose
The 2nd Assistant Superintendent assists the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in managing and overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and operations of the golf course areas. The role is responsible for supporting the upkeep of course conditions, assisting with supervising staff, and ensuring the highest standard of turf management and aesthetics. May serve as the GCS capacity during his absence.

Work is primarily outdoors with some indoor exposure. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements
Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.
Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 80 lbs., up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting.
Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf’s Club Maintenance person. Following his assessment of the situation, he will determine if he or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings, and/or prohibited from using scaffolding.
