Examples of duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead Zumba® and/or Zumba® Gold classes
  • Be a certified Zumba® and/or Zumba® Gold instructor
  • Demonstrated skills in group exercise class design including components of a class, exercise selection, music, cueing and choreography required
  • Basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy
  • Demonstrate modifications of intensity and impact
  • Encourage and motivate participants to work at own pace
  • Uses proper cueing (visual, correctional and motivational)
  • Use safety techniques to properly instruct students
  • Monitor and record class numbers for future class planning
  • Monitor equipment for safety purposes
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with participants making announcements prior to class
  • Effectively instruct and maintain a safe, learning atmosphere

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Create a welcoming environment for participants
  • Attends staff meetings
  • Consistently available to sub when asked
  • Returns supervisors phone calls and emails within 48 hours
  • Communicates with supervisor regarding any concerns (participants, equipment, room, etc)
  • Accurately complete paperwork required (timesheet, accident forms, etc)
  • Assure own professional growth through reading, studying meetings and attending conferences related to fitness classes

Qualifications

  • Have current Zumba® and/or Zumba® Gold certification
  • Have current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Two or more years of paid Zumba® and/or Zumba® Gold instruction preferred
  • Strong communicator and leader
  • Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
  • Adhere to the City of Appleton and Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures

Supplemental information

Employment Season: Part-time, year round

Work Location: Northland Mall, Scheig Center and outdoor park areas

Certified Fitness Instructor Pay Rate - $31.53/class
