(Seasonal) Winter Lights Parking Attendants

We are hiring Winter Lights Parking Attendants to support traffic and parking operations during Winter Lights, the Arboretum's largest fundraiser. Parking Attendants play a direct part in ensuring every guest has a safe and memorable evening. This position operates within Public Safety, working evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (Driver role: 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., one per night). Pay is $16–$18/hour, based on experience. This position requires working the evenings of December 24th and/or December 25th, in addition to regular weekend and holiday shifts.

Including rehearsal nights, this year's show runs from November 12th (Preview) through January 3rd. Paid training is provided prior to the show's start. Applications are accepted until all positions are filled; preference is given to applicants who apply by October 16, 2026.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

This position will operate within the Public Safety department which is charged with maintaining a safe and secure environment in partnership with those it serves by respectfully employing the highest professional standards and providing exceptional service to those working and visiting The North Carolina Arboretum.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills

This position requires evening availability. Some weekends and holidays may be required. You WILL be required to work the EVENINGS of Dec 24th and/or Dec 25th. Most shifts will run between 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Driver role will be from 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (one per night).

Competencies

Requirements for this position include: Ability to lift up to 50lbs; Ability to stand for long periods of time (approximately 6 hour shift with mandatory breaks); Ability to work in cold and inclement weather conditions; Ability to properly operate a 2-way radio; Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled by supervisor; Ability to work required shift hours of 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; Ability to work in low light conditions with the aid of a LED traffic baton; Have valid NC Driver's license; Ability to maintain composure and positive attitude in stressful situations.
