Summary:  The Turf and Landscaping Worker is responsible for the maintenance and care of the natural grass sports fields and surrounding grounds within the Recreation Commission. This role involves performing various tasks related to mowing, weed-eating, and landscape maintenance to ensure the overall health and aesthetic appeal of the outdoor recreational areas. Job open from April to Mid - November.
Pay: $15-$18 per hour depending on qualifications
Hours: 6:30 am- 3:00 pm Monday-Friday, 30 minutes for lunch
Duties and Responsibilities:
Mowing:
- Operate lawn mowers to mow sports fields and surrounding grounds.
- Follow specific patterns and directions for mowing as required.
- Inspect turf conditions regularly and promptly report any changes or issues.
- Wash and fuel mowers as needed.
- Check and maintain the blades of the mower for optimal performance.
- Utilize blowers to manage windrows and maintain general cleanliness.
Weed-Eating:
- Operate weed eater to trim and edge grass along walkways, fences, and other designated areas, ensuring a neat and manicured appearance.
- Check and manage gas/oil mixture for weed-eaters.
- Inspect and replace weed eater string/line as necessary.
- Utilize blowers to assist in maintaining general cleanliness.
Landscape Bed Maintenance:
- Perform mulching activities to control weed growth and retain moisture.
- Conduct regular weed maintenance in landscape beds.
- Replace and maintain trees, shrubs, and flowers as needed.
- Water plants and landscaping elements as required.
- Utilize blowers to aid in overall cleanliness of landscaped areas.

Qualifications
- Previous experience in turf maintenance and landscaping preferred.
- Knowledge of proper mowing techniques and patterns.
- Familiarity with weed-eating equipment and maintenance.
- Basic understanding of landscape bed maintenance, including mulching and plant care.
- Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on landscaping equipment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to landscaping activities.
- Strong communication skills for reporting turf conditions and collaborating with team members.
- Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required.
- Must pass preemployment background check.
