Six temporary leaf collector positions are available starting November 2, 2026, for approximately 8-10 weeks in the City of Fairfax Public Works Department, Right-of-Ways Division.
Leaf collection using large vacuum hoses.
Lifting collection hoses to shoulder height into a truck.
Raking leaves; digging leaves out of ditches using a pitchfork.
Other duties such as flagging traffic.
Litter collection, refuse collection, grounds maintenance.
Performing or assisting in repairs to equipment.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Must be at least 18 years of age and in good physical condition.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds to shoulder height, to walk at a brisk pace for up to 8 hours, and to push a large vacuum hose for up to 8 hours.
Must be able to use a pitchfork and a leaf rake, and to assist the driver in the dumping of the truck.
Must be able to work in inclement weather, including rain and snow.
Must be able to follow oral instructions.
Will be required to wear safety equipment issued by the City, including safety vests, safety shoes, and ear protection.
Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Some overtime may be required.
The criminal history of all selected applicants will be checked and evaluated.
