Job Location: Omaha Zoo - Omaha, NE 68107
Position Type: SeasonalJob Title: Seasonal Grounds Gardener
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Classification: Seasonal
Hours: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM; Monday - Friday with occasional evening or weekend hours
Pay Rate: $16.41/hour
This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date.

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Horticulture Grounds Supervisor and the Horticulture Grounds Lead, this seasonal position will be primarily be responsible for weed management as directed within the Zoo grounds. Additional responsibilities may include providing general grounds landscape labor.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Weed Management:
- - Chemical application were deemed appropriate.
- - Mechanical removal weed removal trimming or mowing.
- - Manual removal of weeds through digging or pulling.
- Provide labor in support of other areas of the department.
- Weekly watering of non-irrigated areas and fertilization as directed.
- Planting perennials, grasses, and trees in the landscape.
- Mulching existing or new planting areas.
- Flexible schedule to avoid disruption of the guest experience.
- Work and act in a professional manner.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have Nebraska pesticide applicators license.
- Experience in commercial landscape management.
- Familiar with common pest, disease and weed identification.
- General knowledge of common trees species, shrubs and perennials.
- Knowledge of proper Horticulture industry methods regarding planting height, pruning and watering.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated and able to multi-task in a fast-paced work team environment or in individually.
Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.
Working Conditions & Physical Efforts:
- This position may require flexible hours and some split shifts to accommodate our park setting providing minimal disruption to our guests. Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays and some night programs.
- Work is normally performed under various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk long distances across the zoo.
- Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head and climb.
- Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
