Looking for a summer job that’s full of energy, creativity, and purpose? As a Summer Seasonal Childcare Teacher at Countryside YMCA, you’ll help make summer days fun, safe, and meaningful for the children in our care. From leading hands-on activities to building positive relationships, this role is perfect for someone who loves working with kids, thrives in a team environment, and wants to make a difference—one summer smile at a time.
The expected start date for the summer season is on or about May 18, 2026. This role will be 20+ hours weekly, Monday through Friday.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists with preparation of developmentally appropriate activities and conducting said activities in a classroom setting.
Adheres to policies as stated in the YMCA Childcare Policies and Procedures Manual and in subsequent YMCA trainings and meetings.
Works as a team player who encourages open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, or co-workers.
Maintains accurate documentation of attendance, absences, and emergency information on each child.
Complies with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
Maintains supplies, equipment, and materials; informs the Program Director when new/additional supplies are needed.
Ensures that all staff and children are respectful of YMCA property.
QualificationsEDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent. Certification in first aid and CPR preferred, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and must be maintained by obtaining recertification as necessary. Must pass a criminal background check.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect
Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; teach and redirect rather than scolding or reprimanding them; firmly and consistently enforce rules.
Express clear expectations and hold children accountable for adhering to them
Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth
Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the values of caring, respect, honesty, responsibility and faith.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Will be exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.
