Job Description

We are a Jackson Family wines winery; a family-owned company with properties in California, Oregon, Australia, France, Italy, Chile, and South Africa. At our Oakville winery we produce wines not only for high end JFW brands such as Freemark Abbey but also premium custom crush clients.We produce primarily high-quality red Bordeaux varieties, along with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Assy ethics.  Our average crush is 2-2100 tons, and we have approx. 15,000 barrels of capacity in our barrel cellar.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:   This is a hands-on cellar position role and reports to the cellar manager.  We operate an indoor and outdoor facility with full grapes to bottling production.  Interns work in all the following areas:
  • Assist in crushing red fruit to tank and pressing of white grapes
  • Fermentation management: pump overs, rack and returns, pressing
  • Addition of yeast, nutrients, SO2, etc.
  • Barrel work: filling, racking, topping and SO2 adds.
  • Sanitation of tanks, equipment, and general housekeeping
  • Dry goods inventory
JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Essential Skills, Experience, and Education   
  • 1 year harvest experience preferred not required
  • A degree or certificate in winemaking preferred but not required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English, Spanish speaking a plus
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and extended hours through harvest
  • Ability to sit, bend, stoop, twist and walk over uneven surfaces
  • Ability to climb stairs, lift 50+ lbs. and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work well as an individual and as a valued member of our team with a positive attitude
  • Forklift driving experience is a plus
Physical Requirements   
  • This position requires continuous walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling throughout the shift for cleaning, sanitizing and sterilizing all winery equipment and facilities.
  • It requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, fine manipulation and to lift up to 50 pounds for Racking and pumping of juice and wine; moving hoses and equipment and to operate crush pad equipment.
  • It occasionally includes enclosed spaces, heights, and wearing a respirator to make chemical and nutrient additions to juice and wine and to obtain lab samples from tanks and barrels. 
 This is a seasonal position commencing in August and concluding in November. 

WAGE TRANSPARENCY: The base pay for this role ranges from $18.50 - $23.50 per hour.
