CNC Programmer

PURPOSE:

The objective of a CNC Programmer is to operate and maintain the CNC equipment. You will be responsible for inputting the design specifications and setting up machines to produce the component outlined in the program. This job involves reading blueprints and understanding the dimensions of the given component to properly program machines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and maintain CNC programming data/ CNC programs for all required products.
  • Assist in the development and modification of new and existing products.
  • Work with CNC technician and CNC operators to troubleshoot and repair CNC production issues.
  • Work with CNC technician and CNC operators to troubleshoot and repair CNC production issues.
  • Assist in the development of new product prototypes.
  • Assist in the construction and repair of assembly jigs.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineer and others while reviewing Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
  • Work to develop and train competent CNC operators.
  • Provide input on the performance of CNC operators to be used in employee evaluations and compensation reviews.
  • Work with Cell Leaders and other to maintain and monitor an accurate list of secondary actions to be performed by CNC operators and assembly crews.
  • Maintains accurate database of machining times for each item.
  • Constantly reviewing procedures and quality of products produced on the CNC.
  • Create & update CNC fixture layouts for operators to reference.
  • Create step by step procedure documents for different aspects of the CNC operator job functions for training purposes.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
  • Constantly reviewing best practices and recommend any updates or changes.
  • Attend trainings and/or meeting as needed or requested.
  • Must job shadow all lower CNC levels at least 2 days a month to see issues the other department employees deal with on a regular day to day work basis

Qualifications

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS

  • Must be able to perform all duties and have all skills of a Level 3 CNC Operator.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and have all skills of a CNC Fixture Technician.
  • Computer literate. Basic use of MS Office.
  • Thorough understanding program coding and layout.
  • Advanced knowledge of Mastercam programing software.
  • Ability to test new programs independently with minimal assistance.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Team leadership skills.
  • Complex problem-solving skills required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Often exposed to heightened noise levels; however, ear plugs are available for hearing protection.
  • Daily wearing of protective eyeglasses
  • Work is performed indoors in a manufacturing setting, without air conditioning.
  • On your feet standing and walking frequently.
  • Requires one to stand, walk, bend, and reach frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. multiple times per day.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma
  • CNC Programmer Certificate preferred
  • Working knowledge of Mastercam software
  • Minimum of 3 years leading CNC Programming Operations.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing setting required.
