Company Description

Are you ready to be a big part of something big?

At carsales, we’re all about making buying and selling a great experience. Since 1997, we’ve been evolving with the new economy to help people choose how they move today and tomorrow.

When it comes to your career, we want to offer meaningful opportunities that empower you to make a lasting impact. But for that to happen, we strive to feel small - small enough to stay agile, learn across teams, and connect authentically with each other.

With a vision to be the global leader in online vehicle marketplaces, we’re transforming how people buy and sell across the world. We discover new ideas and bring them to life. We continue to grow, and we continue to evolve, and we’re not afraid to take bold steps to get there.

What’s on offer:

  • A place where you can move your career forward, where you’ll be continuously backed to make new ideas happen, and the chance to do work that makes real, significant impact in the world.
  • We’re proud to be recognised as one of Australia’s Best Workplaces™ by Great Place to Work®, a Family Friendly Workplace and a WORK180 endorsed employer for women.
  • The support of a highly engaged, high-performing team including a leadership team that you’ll actually have face time with.
  • 24 weeks paid parental leave for primary caregivers, four weeks paid secondary caregivers leave and paid family & fertility planning leave.

Job Description

What you’ll be doing

The SEM Specialist plays a key role in driving performance for our automotive dealer clients through Google Ads. You'll own and manage a large portfolio of 100+ accounts, mostly car dealerships and automotive businesses, many of them small and mid-sized. You'll make sure each one is set up well, optimised, and delivering against its goals, and you'll be the main point of contact for clients on how their account is performing.

Success comes from managing many accounts efficiently and knowing where to focus, without losing sight of each client's needs. You'll be part of a small, close-knit team, so you'll need to be confident running accounts on your own and bringing fresh ideas to how we work. You'll have plenty of support, but we're looking for someone who can see what an account needs and get it done.

  • Manage a large portfolio of Google Ads accounts end to end, keeping performance, budgets and client needs balanced across all of them
  • Build and structure campaigns across Search, Performance Max, Display, Demand Gen, Shopping Ads/Vehicle Ads and other campaign types, matched to each client's goals
  • Carry out ongoing optimisation across bidding, keywords, audiences, ad copy and budgets to get the most out of every account, whatever its size
  • Spot accounts that are underperforming, find the cause and take action to turn them around
  • Present regular account reviews to clients, explaining performance clearly and giving useful insights and recommendations
  • Build strong client relationships and be their go-to person for questions, feedback and strategy
  • Onboard new clients, including account creation, campaign setup, and tracking and conversion setup
  • Troubleshoot tracking, feed and delivery issues across Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Merchant Centre and Business Profile
  • Find ways to work more efficiently at scale, and help improve team processes, reporting and use of tools (including AI)

Qualifications

What we’re looking for

We care more about what you can do than how many years you've been doing it. If you can show us you know your way around Google Ads and can manage clients confidently, we want to hear from you.

  • Strong hands-on Google Ads skills, including campaign structure, bidding strategies, keyword strategy and the different campaign types
  • A proven ability to optimise accounts and diagnose and fix poor performance on your own
  • Confidence talking with clients, presenting account reviews and explaining performance in plain language
  • Experience managing many accounts at once, prioritising well and staying organised
  • A self-starter mindset: you take ownership, work out what needs doing and do it
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn data into clear actions
  • Experience with Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics (GA4), Google Merchant Centre and Google Business Profile
  • Strong Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, lookups, bulk data work)
  • Experience with Google Ads Editor and bulk changes
  • Experience with Skai (Kenshoo) or similar bid and campaign management platforms
  • Use of AI tools (e.g. Claude) to work more efficiently

We know not everyone will meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If you’re excited about the role and believe you can make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

About carsales

At carsales, we’re all about making buying and selling a great experience. For over 25 years we’ve been evolving with the new economy to help people choose how they move today and tomorrow.

We started out with the idea of digitising print classifieds back in 1997 when we thought that ‘this internet thing might actually be starting to take off’. Fast forward to today and we have close to 800 team members across Australia and New Zealand and we’re part of CAR Group - an ASX 50 business and a global leader in digital marketplaces across Oceania, Asia and The Americas.

And don’t let our name fool you – we might have the word “car” in there, but we’re about so much more....

When it comes to your career, we want to provide big opportunities to help you make a big impact. But for this to be possible, we strive to feel small. Small enough to quickly change tack, small enough to learn from different departments and small enough to connect authentically with leadership.

Not something you’d expect from one of the country’s biggest tech companies, is it?

There are a lot of things to love about carsales. Our uniqueness comes from having the rare combination of being able to provide all the benefits of a big tech company – being growth, security and resource – coupled with the feeling of a small organisation, which gives agility, opportunity and autonomy to our people. We’re a place where you can truly move your career forward and we’re proud to offer a dynamic workplace experience which transcends a mere list of perks and benefits.

Our people are Software Developers. Engineers. Product Managers. Data Analysts. Designers. Sales, Media and Advertising specialists. Researchers. Customer Service stars. Content Producers. Finance experts. Photographers. Marketing magicians. Legal eagles. And People and Culture peeps.
