Job Description

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.

We are seeking a Seamer Mechanic Class A to be responsible for rebuilding, timing, and adjusting vacuum syrupier and seamer and work on all the accessories (vacuum pumps, Waukesha feed pumps, juice heaters) that are used in the seamer area. This role will be responsible for maintaining an orderly work area and assisting inventory control as needed at our San Benito Foods plant in Hollister, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with and ability to and rebuild all the parts and components of the Vacuum Syrupier.
  • Ability to perform machine adjustments to adjust lower turret bearing, seaming head sleeve for end play, flange of upper seaming chuck to seaming rolls, setting seaming rolls, setting lower chuck spring tension, setting lower chuck height.
  • Ability to replace Valve and piston rollers as needed, identify uneven wear on the discharge and intake seats.
  • Ability to install pistons, replace worn piston guide blocks, repair air cylinder hinge pins, and be able to blush or re-drill cylinder bracket if worn.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma GED) required.
  • Requires demonstrable competences with diagnostics, maintenance and troubleshooting, algebra, and geometry, and reading of diagrams and schematics.
  • Requires completion of a four-year mechanical apprenticeship program or 5 years of industrial mechanic – seamer experience; experience with installation and programming of PLC’s a plus.
  • Requires the ability to read, write and comprehend English fluently; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and work extended schedule, weekends, and any assigned shift during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.

Our San Benito Foods cannery in Hollister, CA produces fresh-packed, California tomato products, sourced from the very best San Joaquin valley & Santa Clara valley farms. As a foodservice supplier, we fresh-pack our California tomatoes in #10 cans.

Tomatek, located in Firebaugh, CA, is our state-of-the-art production facility that produces fresh-packed, California tomato products in #10 equivalent hot fill pouches and industrial bins and drums.

We are an important supplier to the retail, foodservice and industrial segments of the food industry, exporting globally. In addition to shipping directly from our processing facilities, we replenish over 18 forwarding warehouses across North America to enhance service to our customer base.
