Job Description

About Bright Money

Bright Money is a consumer fintech built for middle-income consumers. Our platform helps consumers build credit, manage debt, and access suitable loans and credit cards - addressing the key financial needs of people living paycheck to paycheck.

Bright is a profitable, India-built fintech serving the U.S. market, with a clear trajectory toward $100 million in revenue. Our business model combines subscription revenue with a financial-services marketplace across loans, credit cards, and credit-building solutions.

We have launched an AI-powered money assistant and agentic AI experiences that simplify access to credit. Our ambition is to build the first AI-driven consumer-fintech platform for middle-income consumers.

Founded in 2019, Bright’s founding team includes leaders from McKinsey’s Banking Practice - Petko Plachkov and Avi Patchava - and data science leaders from InMobi. Bright is backed by leading global venture capital firms and technology investors across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

With a data-driven, high-ownership, and fast-paced culture, we are building a global consumer-fintech company from India.

What is the role about?

We are looking for an SDET - III to own quality engineering for Bright’s consumer app and platform. You will design and build the automation frameworks that our mobile, API, and web testing runs on, embed quality gates into our release pipelines, and set the testing standards other engineers work to.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will write production-grade test code every week, review the designs and test strategy of others, mentor SDETs across teams, and put AI to work in the testing workflow - while staying accountable for what ships to customers.

What will you do?

  • Automation strategy & frameworks: Own the design, development, and maintenance of scalable automation frameworks across mobile, API, and web layers.
  • Mobile & API coverage: Drive end-to-end automation for the Bright app (iOS and Android) and backend services, covering functional, integration, and regression suites.
  • CI/CD & release quality: Embed automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so quality gates run on every build; own release-readiness signals, defect triage, and root-cause analysis.
  • Shift-left engagement: Partner with Product and Engineering from the design stage through testability reviews, risk-based test planning, and early defect detection.
  • Non-functional testing: Extend coverage into performance, load, security, and resilience testing in partnership with Engineering.
  • Technical leadership: Set testing standards, review test code and strategy, and mentor SDETs and QA engineers across squads.
  • Quality metrics: Track and improve automation coverage, suite stability, escaped defects, and test cycle time, and report quality health to engineering leadership.
  • AI-assisted testing: Use LLMs and AI coding assistants to generate automation scripts, design and expand test cases, and identify coverage gaps - setting the team’s standards for reviewing and validating AI-generated tests.

Ideal candidate profile

Experience & Background

  • Experience: 5+ years in software testing and quality engineering, with substantial time in SDET or automation-focused roles at a senior or lead level.
  • Programming: Strong hands-on coding skills in at least one language (Java, Python, Kotlin, or JavaScript/TypeScript), with a solid grasp of object-oriented design and data structures.
  • Frameworks: Proven experience designing and maintaining automation frameworks from the ground up - Appium, Espresso, or XCUITest for mobile; REST Assured, pytest, or equivalent for APIs; Selenium or Playwright for web.
  • CI/CD & tooling: Working knowledge of Git, Jenkins or GitHub Actions, Docker, device farms or cloud grids, and test reporting; comfortable with parallel execution and pipeline debugging.
  • Backend & data: Comfortable with SQL, API debugging, and log analysis; exposure to AWS or a comparable cloud environment.
  • Leadership: A track record of mentoring engineers, reviewing code, and raising the quality bar across a team.
  • Domain: Experience in fintech, payments, or another regulated, high-reliability environment is a strong plus.
  • AI tooling: Hands-on use of LLMs or AI coding assistants to build test scripts and design test cases, with sound judgment on where their output needs human review.
  • Team management: Experience leading or managing a small QA or SDET team is a plus.

Mindset & Operating DNA

  • Quality ownership: Takes end-to-end responsibility for what ships, rather than for test cases alone.
  • Engineering depth: Writes test code to production standards and is at ease in the application codebase.
  • Automation bias: Instinctively removes repetitive manual effort and invests in tooling that compounds.
  • Pragmatism: Prioritizes by risk and impact, and knows when to stop gold-plating a suite.
  • Collaboration: Influences developers and product managers toward better quality practices without friction.

Non-Fit Profiles

  • Primarily manual testers, without hands-on automation development experience.
  • Candidates dependent on record-and-playback tools, who have not built a framework themselves.
  • Those seeking a purely managerial QA role with no day-to-day coding.
  • Profiles limited to a single layer of testing, with no exposure to both mobile and API automation.

What Bright Offers?

  • A profitable sub-unicorn with U.S. market scale - liquidity potential at $1-3B valuations.
  • Real ownership: You own the quality bar for products used by consumers across the U.S.
  • Wealth creation: Equity at an inflection stage of scale.
  • A data-driven, high-cadence culture that combines consulting rigor with FinTech speed.
  • Benefits: Excellent benefits package in line with sector best practice.
