To be successful as a SDET , you should have experience with:
Hands-on experience in API performance testing using tools such as JMeter / LoadRunner / Gatling, with ability to simulate realistic traffic patterns and workloads.
Solid understanding of test strategy, workload modelling, test data setup, and performance metrics (throughput, latency, response time, error rate).
Experience in analysing performance test results, identifying bottlenecks (application, DB, infrastructure), and providing actionable insights to engineering teams.
Working knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana) for root cause analysis.
Good understanding of banking/payment systems or distributed microservices architectures.
Strong collaboration skills to work with Dev, DevOps, and QE teams to drive performance improvement and resolution.
Strong experience in Performance & Volume Testing (VPT), including design, execution, and analysis of load, stress, and endurance testing scenarios.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and integrating performance tests in automated pipelines (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins).
Knowledge of cloud-based performance testing (AWS/Azure) and scalability testing.
Experience in designing end-to-end performance test strategies for customer journeys (UI + API layers).
Understanding of resilience testing, chaos testing, and failover validation.
Basic scripting skills (Java/Python) for custom test development and data preparation.
Familiarity with non-functional test governance, reporting dashboards, and stakeholder communication (SteerCo, impact reports).
Experience in Business Banking or Payments domain (e.g., FPS, RPS, Bill Payments, APIs).
