Job Description

Aptive is seeking a Scrum Master to facilitate Agile delivery for VA health informatics teams supporting the IHT 2.0 Field Informatics Service Health Practice program.

This role will support interdisciplinary Agile teams within the Integrated Health Practice Agile Release Train, helping teams follow Scrum and SAFe-aligned practices, maintain JIRA documentation, coordinate ceremonies, remove blockers, and deliver clinical informatics products that improve care team workflows and Veteran outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a servant leader with strong healthcare or federal consulting experience, practical Scrum facilitation skills, and the ability to guide clinical, informatics, analytics, and technical team members through two-week sprints and iterative delivery.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, demos, retrospectives, and related coordination meetings.
  • Help Agile teams follow Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values while aligning to SAFe Lean-Agile principles and IHP ART cadences.
  • Support Product Owners, Agilists, clinical informaticists, analysts, and SMEs in translating prioritized work into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, feature inputs, and sprint objectives.
  • Maintain accurate sprint documentation, team boards, dependencies, impediments, decisions, and progress updates in JIRA or the Government-designated sprint planning tool.
  • Track and communicate delivery progress, risks, blockers, dependencies, and retrospective findings to program leadership and Government stakeholders.
  • Promote transparency, team accountability, continuous improvement, and high-quality delivery across interdisciplinary health informatics teams.
  • Coordinate preparation for biweekly feature progress demonstrations and final feature demonstrations; ensure stakeholder feedback is captured and incorporated.
  • Support development of lean business cases, feature canvases, feature specifications, performance monitoring dashboards, and other IHP Agile artifacts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, health informatics, healthcare administration, public health, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience supporting Agile, Scrum, program/project delivery, health IT, or federal consulting teams.
  • Experience facilitating Agile teams and promoting Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values.
  • Experience with SAFe Lean-Agile principles and practices, including delivery in complex team-of-teams environments.
  • Hands-on experience using JIRA or similar Agile lifecycle management tools for sprint planning, tracking, reporting, and documentation.
  • Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, and written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), SAFe Advanced Scrum Master (SASM), or related Agile certification.
  • Experience supporting VA/VHA, OCI/OHI, IHP ART, Field Informatics Service, EHR modernization, clinical informatics, or health IT product teams.
  • Experience with JIRA Align, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Power BI, or Office 365 collaboration tools.
  • Experience supporting clinical workflow, clinical decision support, VistA/CPRS, Oracle Health/Cerner, or healthcare interoperability initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach teams through Agile maturity, retrospectives, impediment removal, and continuous improvement.
