Scrum Master / Delivery Manager (Azure DevOps/Payments) – Full Remote Portugal

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a senior delivery role with real teeth — not a ceremony facilitator who updates boards and stays out of the way. You'll be leading the end-to-end delivery of a greenfield, enterprise-grade payment gateway platform: a technically complex, security-critical, compliance-heavy initiative where your ability to remove blockers, manage risk, and keep a cross-functional team aligned actually determines whether the product ships on time. If you've delivered high-availability financial platforms before and you know how to operate at the intersection of engineering rigour and stakeholder clarity, this is a role worth your attention.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

You'll drive delivery of a new payment gateway platform from the ground up, working closely with Product, Architecture, Engineering, Security, Compliance, QA, and external partners. The platform is cloud-native, built to PCI-DSS standards, and designed for scale and security from day one. You'll own the full delivery lifecycle — agile ceremonies, roadmap management, risk tracking, release scheduling, and stakeholder reporting — using Azure DevOps as the primary delivery and backlog management tool. This is a fast-paced environment where ambiguity is the norm and structured thinking is the differentiator.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Experience

• Proven track record as a Scrum Master, Delivery Manager, or Agile Project Manager in a complex technical delivery environment
• Demonstrated experience delivering payment systems, payment gateways, or high-availability, high-security financial platforms
• Fluent English — written and spoken, for cross-functional team communication and senior stakeholder reporting

Agile Delivery Leadership

• Hands-on facilitation of all Scrum ceremonies daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and reviews
• Ability to coach teams in agile principles and continuously improve flow, predictability, and collaboration
• Proven skill in removing blockers, managing dependencies, and protecting team delivery capacity

Delivery Management

• Ownership of end-to-end delivery planning, tracking, and reporting across a multi-team, cross-functional programme
• Experience building and maintaining delivery roadmaps, sprint plans, and release schedules
• Proactive risk identification and mitigation — you flag issues before they become incidents
• Coordination across security, DevOps, architecture, compliance, and QA functions

Tooling & Backlog Management

• Hands-on proficiency with Azure DevOps for backlog management, sprint boards, dashboards, and delivery metrics (velocity, burndown, cycle time, lead time)
• Experience working with a Product Owner to maintain a clear, prioritised, well-structured backlog aligned to the product roadmap

Technical Literacy (Non-Coding)

• Familiarity with payment flows authorisation, capture, settlement, and refunds
• Working knowledge of PCI-DSS, security best practices, and compliance considerations in a payments context
• Awareness of cloud-native architectures APIs, microservices, and event-driven systems
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps/DevSecOps practices

Stakeholder & Team Engagement

• Excellent facilitation and communication skills — you translate technical complexity into clear delivery narratives for non-technical audiences
• Ability to influence without authority across a distributed, cross-functional environment
• Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a calm, structured approach
• Proven ability to foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and psychological safety

NICE TO HAVE

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services
• Background in fintech, e-commerce, or other regulated industries
• Exposure to scaled agile frameworks: SAFe, LeSS, or Scrum@Scale
• Experience working with third-party payment providers or acquirers
• Relevant certifications: CSM, PSM, PMP, SAFe SM, or equivalent
