What you will do

As a Scrum Master, you will be a member of the Agile community within the Bank and will be responsible for coaching Scrum Team members to communicate, coordinate and collaborate to meet delivery goals. You are also accountable for supporting process improvements and ensuring that information is continually shared within and between teams.

We are a collaborative and diverse team within ITS with the mission to carry out the roadmap of an effective regulatory IT platform to meet the requirements of the Bank of Canada’s role in supervising payment service providers (PSPs). We are also beginning work on two new mandates: Stable Coin and Consumer-driven Banking.

Lead by the Director of the Supervision portfolio, you will join a dynamic and highly skilled team working together to design, develop, and support our regulatory IT platforms built on the Power Platform.

You will facilitate Scrum events, remove impediments to team progress, as well as work with other Scrum Masters to improve the Scrum practice at the Bank. You will be called upon to coach and guide team members on best-in-class development techniques and approaches.

More specifically you will:

  • facilitate sprints, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
  • support planning, tracking, and reporting efforts required of the team
  • complete backlog items within an acceptable timeframe
  • contribute to a well-managed product backlog with the Product Owner and ensure the team members are working on tasks that are reflected in the active task list
  • coordinate the efforts of the team toward objectives and goals while adhering to team ground rules
  • collaborate with Deployment Lead/Product Owners to ensure that deployments meet client requirements

What you need to succeed

You are a great team player with good communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills to help keep this dynamic team focused and on track. You also have great problem-solving and multi-tasking skills, allowing you to remove barriers, prioritize and manage expectations to deliver high quality work despite changes in priorities. You exemplify the Agile mindset, fostering a psychologically safe environment, equal voice, purpose and belonging.

In addition, you have:

  • Hands-on experience as a Scrum Master with a proven ability to coach and guide team members on best-in-class Scrum/Agile techniques approaches and values
  • Proven ability to facilitate sprints, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives in an IT and/or software development environment
  • Ability to influence and engage diverse individuals at different levels to operate as a cohesive team.
  • Experience resolving conflicts in productive ways while creating a positive and productive environment

Nice-to-have

  • Previous experience in software development
  • Understanding of DevOps or DevSecOps principles and practices
  • Relevant certifications for the position (CSM, SAFe, etc).

Your education and experience

Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the competencies and skills for the position. We are ideally seeking candidates with relevant education (business administration, computer science, etc.) and 5+ years of relevant experience.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional). If a qualified candidate who meets the language requirement of the position is not found, a qualified candidate who does not meet the language requirement may be considered. Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111,051 to $130,649 (job grade 17)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
