Under the supervision of the Director and/or Nurse Manager, the scrub nurse/tech is responsible for assisting the surgeon(s) on all operative and endoscopic procedures for patients ranging in age from birth to geriatric.

Qualifications
Associate's Degree in nursing or technical degree in nursing or surgical technician and 4 years additional relevant experience Required
Work Experience
=> 1 year nursing or surgical technician Required
Licenses and Certifications
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist Preferred
LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure Preferred
Essential Functions
Helps to ensure that operating room is ready for procedure.
Assists the nurse in preparing room and operating instruments and supplies needed for the assigned case, using aseptic technique.
Prepares sterile back table and mayo stand with instruments appropriate for procedures.
Drapes sterile field or assists surgeons with the draping.
Counts all laps, sponges, needles and instruments with the circulating nurse.
Assists surgeons with surgeries.
Keeps track of location of all sponges, needles and instruments.
Communicates with the circulating nurse on status of cae and any needed supplies not on the sterile field.
Makes sure specimen, if any, is handed off to the circulating nurse.
Cleans operative site and applies dressing as dictated by the case or the surgeon.
Cleans the surgical room after operating procedures.
Gathers instruments and cleans off mayo and back table(s).
Assists in moving patient from OR table to bed or stretcher.
Takes instruments to Central Sterile for processing; also takes all trash and linen bags to trash room.
Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
Uses correct terminology.
Conforms to required style and format.
Collects data in a systematic and ongoing process
Issues are identified and diagnoses are developed based on assessment data.
Prioritizes data collection based on the patient's condition and needs.
Identifies expected outcomes and plan based on diagnoses or issues.
Additional Duties
Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.

Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains current Knowledge in present areas of responsibility to include any specialty certification requirements (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
