Bilingual Incentive!

Bilingual Incentive pay is +7.5% above the Screener rate.

What Will You Do?: The Screener assists applicants for public assistance programs; explains policies and procedures; gathers and verifies facts and information; initiates cases through an automated system; makes appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services; and performs related work as required.

Examples of duties

  • Provides general information, application forms, and declaration forms.
  • Explains policies, procedures, and requirements to applicants to apprise them of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Performs initial application interview for public assistance programs and services.
  • Ensures accuracy and completion of application and declaration forms.
  • Bilingual Candidates: Translates, interprets and otherwise communicates with members of the Spanish speaking community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience performing clerical office support duties, including one (1) year at the journey level. Experience must have included substantial public contact.

License & Special Requirements:

  • A valid California Class C driver’s license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • Requires current, less than one (1) year old, valid typing certificate.

Bilingual Candidates:

  • Must pass a written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or other appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.

Supplemental information

The department is currently recruiting for multiple vacancies.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Screener or a Screener - Bilingual, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
