Cardiac Telemetry Scope Technician

GENERAL

Under the direct supervision of the Nursing Director/Designee; observes telemetry for changes in cardiac rhythm, interprets cardiac rhythm, interprets cardiac rhythms, prints strips: documents as indicated and communicates patient status to appropriate nurse. Monitors nurse call system, triaging pages to appropriate staff member(s).

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

  • Performs independently accurate rhythm analysis and monitoring of telemetry patients on the Medical-Surgical floor, within established guidelines
  • Identifies consistently life-threatening rhythms and rhythm changes and reports to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and corrects common causes of inaccurate or inferior quality tracings.
  • Recognizes independently functional deficiencies of monitoring equipment as well as persistent/complex equipment performance problems and collaborate with appropriate resources in resolving issues to achieve maximum functioning of monitoring equipment.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of patient's rhythm and communicates pertinent information to staff on subsequent shifts.
  • Monitors the nurse call system, programs in assignments of personnel, video monitor and triages pages to the appropriate individual.
  • Assists Unit Clerk in various duties, including answering phone, taking messages and communicating information, preparing cha s for admission or discharge, order entry, and admission set-up.
  • Performs duties of Health Care Tech role under the direction of the Nursing Director/Dcsignee as needed.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly environment demonstrating the practices of infection control principles.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as requested by Nursing Director/Dcsignee. Performs other duties as assigned by Nursing Director/Designee.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Demonstrates and supports service excellence according to BMC Employee Standards of Excellence and Code of Ethical Condu Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence.
  • This will be demonstrated by the completion of all competencies, specific skills, HcalthStream annual in-services.
  • Demonstrates consistent ability to meet Personal Performance Summary Standards.
  • While attendance at unit/staff meetings is the preferred method of maintaining knowledge of unit information, minimum of reading 90% of minutes of such meetings.
  • Handwriting is legible.
  • Demonstrates compliance with patient confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to successfully complete BMC Telemetry Course upon hire.
