Join our wonderful R&D Team as a Scientist in Process Development (m/f/d) !

The team is made of 22 colleagues with scientific and technical backgrounds, developing and improving innovative fermentation and downstream processes for global implementation at Novonesis sites. Process development Nienburg is part of the Research & Development organization and collaborates closely with international colleagues across R&D, Process Management, Marketing, Application, Engineering and Analytics, as well as with various universities.

The Role & Your Impact:

  • Plan and execute laboratory- and pilot-scale experiments to develop and optimize microbial production processes (primarily for animal and plant health).
  • Implement new production processes at industrial scale and optimize existing processes.
  • Act as point of contact for process equipment; contribute ideas for new equipment and sensor technologies.
  • Support troubleshooting in production, process development and laboratory operations.
  • Lead and/or coordinate global projects and collaborate with industrial and academic partners.
  • Apply statistical methods (e.g., Design of Experiments and multivariate data analysis).

Mixed role with focus on development, optimization and implementation of microbial production processes from lab/pilot scale through industrial scale-up. Close collaboration with international, cross-functional stakeholders and external partners (industry/universities), with responsibility in global projects.

Skills & experience

  • MSc in Biotechnology, Life Science, Bioprocess Engineering, Microbiology, Microbial Physiology, Chemical/Process Engineering or similar.
  • Experience in microbial fermentation and microorganism physiology (Bacillus cultures are an advantage), as well as process development and industrial production/scale-up.
  • Knowledge of bioprocess basics (aseptic work, downstream processes such as separation and spray drying) and technical fermentation equipment.
  • Experience with microscale screenings and related data evaluation.
  • Statistical experimental design and multivariate data analysis; programming skills (e.g., R or Python) are desirable.
  • Languages: fluent/professional proficiency in German and English.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills; proactive, independent and structured working style

Working conditions:

  • 2 years fixed term contract to cover parental leave
  • Pilot Plant Nienburg (on-site/hybrid)
  • Flexible working hours.
