Global change, with its effects on climate on climate, ecosystems, economy and populations, poses major challenges for land use and the provision of the associated services. These challenges can only be addressed through interdisciplinary approaches and close cooperation with various stakeholders. Conceptualizing landscapes as multifunctional socio-ecological systems offers a valuable approach to this challenge.

The methodological focus of this position is on integrative spatial modelling of land-use systems and landscapes, as well as on decision support for sustainable landscape management. You will contribute to the development of innovative theoretical and practical concepts, methods, and applications, focusing on internationally important research questions and local to national applications. To this end, you draw on relevant expertise from the natural and social sciences at WSL as well as from the international research community. You will establish internationally recognised research activities and acquire the necessary funding in collaboration with internal and external scientific partners and stakeholders.

You hold a doctorate in geography, landscape ecology, environmental sciences or a related field. As a landscape researcher with several years of experience in researching land use systems, you are familiar with integrative spatial modelling and decision support in transdisciplinary processes. You are innovative, motivated, creative, and reliable, possess a conceptual approach to your work, and enjoy working both independently and within a team. You have good oral and written English skills and experience in writing and publishing scientific articles. Knowledge of German or another national language is required.
