Job Description

We are currently hiring a highly motivated Scientist II to join our LNP Platform team. In this role, you will independently execute hands-on formulation and process development activities for emerging tLNP drug product programs, with a focus on high-quality execution, procedure adherence, risk identification, and practical problem solving.

This position will report to the Principal Scientist and based at our Worcester office. The role will involve hands-on laboratory work. All duties will be performed in compliance with AbbVie’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Experience in lipid nanoparticle formulation and purification processes, or experience with process development, engineering and manufacturing of biologics drug product processes, is highly desired.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Execute defined technical projects and experimental plans focused on formulation, conjugation, purification, and process development for targeted lipid nanoparticle-based nucleic acid formulations.
• Prepare, formulate, purify, and characterize nucleic acid-based complex lipid nanoparticle formulations in accordance with established protocols, batch records, and SOPs.
• Execute, and analyze DOE-based and other structured experiments to develop and optimize LNP formulations, lyophilized drug products, and associated process parameters.
• Identify aberrant results, technical issues, process variability, or formulation performance concerns; support root-cause investigations; raise risks in a timely manner; and propose scientifically sound corrective actions.
• Maintain excellence in laboratory execution, including accurate preparation, timely completion of tasks, clear documentation of experimental procedures and results, and compliance with SOPs and other manufacturing-related documentation.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations that summarize procedures, study results, data interpretation, risks, and recommended next steps.
• Collaborate effectively within project and laboratory teams to deliver accurate, timely results and support short-term projects with defined technical problems.

Qualifications

• BS or equivalent education with typically 7 or more years of experience or MS or equivalent education with typically 5 or more years of experience.
• Working knowledge of lipid-based delivery systems, formulation science principles, nanoparticle characterization, and/or drug product process development.
• Hands-on experience working with nucleic acid and/or lipid nanoparticle-based formulations, complex/nanoparticle formulations, and/or biological formulations development.
• Demonstrated ability to execute laboratory procedures with a high degree of accuracy, follow established protocols and SOPs, and maintain complete and compliant documentation.
• Ability to recognize technical risks, troubleshoot lab or process issues, conduct initial root-cause assessments, escalate concerns appropriately, and propose practical solutions.
• Ability to manage and complete multiple defined tasks or short-term projects under tight timelines while maintaining focus, quality, and attention to detail.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and a commitment to excellence in execution of laboratory operations.
• Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate progress, results, risks, and recommendations.
