JR151400 Scientist II

ICON plc is a world-leading healthcare intelligence and clinical research organization. We’re proud to foster an inclusive environment driving innovation and excellence, and we welcome you to join us on our mission to shape the future of clinical development

The Role

  • The Scientist II position is part of the method development group in the LC-MS/MS department within the bioanalytical laboratory and plays a key role in the design, development, and optimization of bioanalytical methods. In this role, you will independently develop and refine analytical assays, applying scientific expertise to solve complex method development challenges and ensure robust, fit-for-purpose methods.
  • You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Analysts, Project Managers, and clients, to support the successful execution of method development and validation activities. The role requires a strong balance between hands-on scientific work, data interpretation, and technical troubleshooting, as well as the ability to communicate scientific findings clearly and effectively.
  • As an experienced scientist, you will contribute to improving scientific approaches and mentor junior team members. You are expected to work with a high degree of independence while ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with GxP and internal quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize LC‑MS methods to analyze a variety of compounds in biological samples such as plasma, urine, and tissues
  • Contribute to method development and validation projects, helping to troubleshoot issues and ensure high-quality results
  • Support Project Managers by providing technical input and assisting with troubleshooting during study execution (including validation activities in line with ICH M10 expectations)
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including laboratory, operational, and clinical colleagues
  • Communicate effectively with clients to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions during development and validation work

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with 5–7 years of relevant industry experience
  • Master’s degree in a scientific field with 3–5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Ph.D. in Analytical or Bioanalytical Chemistry with 1–3 years of relevant experience

Additional Preferences

  • Experience working in an industry setting, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Hands-on experience with LC‑MS systems (triple quadrupole required; familiarity with high-resolution systems is a plus)
  • Experience with sample preparation techniques such as protein precipitation, solid phase extraction, and immunoprecipitation
  • Familiarity with bioanalytical workflows for peptides, proteins, or oligonucleotides
  • Experience or interest in metabolic profiling is preferred
  • Familiarity with laboratory systems and tools such as LIMS, Watson, Analyst, or comparable platforms
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to take initiative
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
  • Basic knowledge of Dutch is considered an advantage
