Job Summary: AScientistIperforms sample preparation andunder thelimited supervision of theirdirect managerThis position requires the ability to carry out experiments and complete tasks with some degree of uncertainty with an advancedlevel of judgement and independent thinking.

Essential Responsibilities

    • Independent ownership of project work and complete accountability for projects of intermediate complexity

    • Sample preparation,testingand applicationwithout the need for validation by their immediate supervisor

    • Operation of laboratory manufacturing and testing equipmentwith the ability to troubleshoot and resolve difficulties

    • Advancedunderstanding of formulation techniques and raw materialsinone or more technology areas

    • Serve as a team memberProject Manager inCustomization or New Solution/Technology Projects

    • Provide technical support to internal and external customers

    • Preparation of internal and external reports

    • Good housekeeping bymaintaininga 6S work environment

    • Activesupportofa safe working environment for all employees and visitors

    • Travel to other Hempel facilities or customers, some international travel

    • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Demonstratesa high levelin the quality of their work witha track recordof reproducible results

    • Effective communication with Work Contacts such as peers,managerand other internal departmentsas well as customers

    • Ability to work to a timeline, effectively communicate obstacles and self-prioritize work activities

    • Advanced level of formulation knowledgeinone or more technology areasasdemonstratedby the ability to make complex formulation adjustments, including raw material choice, tomodifyproperties asrequiredwith little to no supervision

    • Advanced level knowledge of testing procedures asdemonstratedby the ability tooperateadvanced equipment or performcomplex testing withvery limitedsupervision

    • Ability to performintermediatemathematical calculationssuch as stoichiometry

    • Ability tocompletereporting requirements such asmaintaininga laboratory notebook and/or generatingcustomer ready reportsusing Microsoft Office to accurately document activities

    • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere

    • BA, BS or MS in Chemistry, ChemicalEngineering ,Polymer Chemistry or related fieldOR equivalent years of related experience

    • 2-5years’ experience in Coatings or a closely related field, but time in position does not justify promotion to this level

This position requires the employee to be able to perform normal physicallaborin relation to the laboratory manufacture and application of coatings samples. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, general office environment. Occasional duties in high noise areas requiringhearprotection isrequired

While performing the duties of this Job, the employeeis regularly required tosit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee isfrequentlyrequired to reach with hands and arms and occasional lifting of containers up to 50 lbs., the ability to wear PPE as required, and the ability to stand up to2 hourperiods.
