Job Description

Future. Discover. Together.
Excellent research and innovation are at the heart of the research work of the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications - HHI. Photonics is a dynamic and exciting field of research in which Fraunhofer HHI is a world leader in the development of integrated optoelectronic components. These are used in areas such as optical data transmission, sensor technology, quantum communication, and quantum information processing. We focus on the hybrid integration of photonic functionalities using innovative materials such as polymers, silicon nitride, and lithium niobate. The chips we develop cover a broad spectrum from classic optical data transmission to quantum applications. We accompany the entire development process - from simulation and design to production and characterization. In our well-equipped laboratories, we offer exciting and practice-oriented topics that you can develop further in national and international research projects. Excellent contacts in industry and science are guaranteed. Become part of our team and join us on our research and innovation journey!

Be part of change

  • Development, design, and modeling of integrated photonic components for quantum technologies, in particular for quantum sensing
  • Development and support of the production and assembly steps from chips to usable modules
  • Supervision technicalk staff and students
  • Supervision of our measuring stations
  • Acquisition and leadership of national and international research projects
  • Implementation of development projects together with industrial partners

What you contribute

  • Above-average university degree (master's degree) in physics, electrical engineering, or related fields of study
  • Above-average Ph.D. degree in the field of quantum technologies
  • Sound knowledge of semiconductor physics, optics, or photonics
  • Several years of experience in the design and characterization of photonic components for quantum sensing
  • Technical and applied excellence, as demonstrated by relevant publications and patents
  • Programming skills, ideally in Python, as well as experience in AI-driven data analysis

What we offer

  • A first-class, newly furnished working environment in a leading research institute with an open, appreciative, results-oriented, and cooperative working atmosphere in a dynamically growing team
