We are developing advanced nanotechnology to extend our manufacturing capabilities. This technology has broad applicability to secure documents of all types, to quantum computing, to medical uses, and to environmental remediation. As a Scientist, you will be part of the dynamic and highly skilled team developing this technology. You will work in a one-of-a-kind cutting-edge laboratory, where you will use unique surface science instrumentation to conduct research and develop novel approaches to bottom-up manufacturing. The ideal candidate is excelling in surface science and vacuum science and engineering fields.

What You Will Do

Join our experimental team and contribute to cutting-edge research. Here is a non-exhaustive list of different things and areas where you could contribute:

Research & Experimentation

· Participate in experimental design, relevant scientific literature reviews, troubleshooting, and solution development aligned with company goals.

· Operate Scanning Probe Microscopes (SPM), specifically STM and qPlus AFM UHV microscopes.

· Operate additional surface science tools such as Field Ion Microscopes, XPS, mass spectrometry, and MBE systems.

· Work in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) and cryogenic conditions using vacuum chambers and suitcases, UHV pumps, bakeout equipment, liquid nitrogen and helium, and helium recovery equipment.

· Participate in training new or more junior team members.

· You may be asked to lead projects, organize work of a team of scientists, coordinate work between theory and simulations, experimentalist, and/or chemists to get timely and efficient desired results.

Data Analysis

· Analyze data using specialized SPM software, Python scripts, statistical tools, and graphing platforms to extract meaningful insights from large datasets.

· Present findings in a clear, concise format that supports well-defined conclusions tailored to the intended audience.

Reporting & Communication

· Write clear and concise technical reports for both internal knowledge management and sharing, and external peer-reviewed publications, adapting content to suit the target audience.

· Present and communicate research outcomes at company meetings and scientific conferences.

Cryogen Handling

· Perform cryogen fills when needed (most of our SPMs are cooled down using liquid nitrogen and/or liquid helium) and follow internal SOPs.

· Follow safety protocols, while adhering to and championing best laboratory and workplace health and safety practices. Follow recommendations of our joint health and safety committee and established standard operating procedures and contribute to improving them when appropriate.

Qualifications

Must have:

· Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering

· Experience with Scanning Tunneling Microscopy or Atomic Force Microscopy (qPlus or frequency modulation non-contact AFM)

· Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) equipment

Nice to have:

· Experience with X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

· Experience with Molecular Beam Epitaxy, SEM, FIB

· Microfabrication processes, chip fabrication processes, clean room work

· Molecular deposition in UHV

· Atom-scale manipulation

· Quantum computing research experience

· Programming abilities with Python and LabView
