
The purpose of the role is to establish and maintain the highest scientific excellence standards within Pfizer Medical Affairs so that Medical Affairs colleagues are able to act as peers to external stakeholders and be valued partners internally. This will lead to advancing the organization’s mission for the safe and effective use of current and future Pfizer medicines. The Scientific Learning Director, Medical Academy is expected to have peer-to-peer relationships with senior members of the Medical Affairs organization.
The position has broad impact throughout the organization and requires a medical professional with a passion for learning & development, strategic thinking skills, leadership ability, strong knowledge about the Pfizer therapeutic area stakeholder community and Medical Affairs within the industry.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the Pfizer Medical Academy Scientific Learning Team Lead. Scientific Learning Director, Medical Academy will:
Partner with the global, US, and International Medical Affairs teams to align on the development of scientific training curricula and on the most effective training strategies
Lead the execution of the scientific training strategies for a therapeutic area or group of therapeutic areas globally and within countries
Execute scientific medical training globally including but not limited to scientific on-demand training through the Pfizer Learning Academy and/or My Essential Learning
Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization, including teams across Medical Affairs, the broader Medical Academy Team, and other relevant teams to ensure alignment and integration of learning program design and delivery
Provide professional oversight (clinical/medical and training) of all content developed for training & learning
Deploy metrics for measuring and improving scientific knowledge and associated competencies in agreed therapeutic areas
Identify and pilot innovative learning initiatives
Support systems and processes associated with developing the next generation of personalized learning for Pfizer Medical Affairs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years OR master’s degree with 7+ years OR equivalent terminal doctoral degree and 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience required
Experience within Medical Affairs
Strong strategic mindset, understanding of medical affairs, clinical development, health policy, and technology
Experience leading innovative projects
Very strong communications and relationship building capacity
Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced, complex, matrix environment
Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Medical Affairs experience within Oncology
Ability to flex to other categories and therapeutic areas as needed
Experience working in a Field Medical role
Experience working in a learning and development function or organization
Demonstrated success at leading matrix teams or work streams
An understanding of adult learning principles and experience incorporating these into the development of learning resources and workshops
Understanding of the changing global healthcare environment
Clinical background a plus
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $176,600.00 to $294,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
