Science Writer, Scientific Communications Team

We are seeking a Science Writer to join our Scientific Communications (SciComms) team to lead and support cross-functional publication efforts. This role is ideal for a strong writer who can drive projects forward from inception to publication. You are a clear communicator, proactive problem solver, and an effective collaborator who thrives working across cross-functional, non-reporting teams. You will partner on a diverse portfolio of projects spanning multiple therapeutic areas (e.g., oncology, cardiology, neurology, etc.) and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including research scientists, medical professionals, medical science or scientific affairs liaisons, and commercial partners—to communicate research insights.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of scientific/clinical manuscripts for publication in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, including writing, editing, managing internal review, and submission.
• Draft, edit, and manage conference-related materials, including abstracts, posters, and slide deck presentations.
• Collaborate on cross-functional communication initiatives, such as publication-related marketing materials, to enhance the visibility and impact of Tempus research.
• Manage assigned publication roadmaps by maintaining clear timelines for document generation, submission, revision, and publication.
• Partner with authors to ensure adherence to both external (Good Publication Practice [GPP], International Committee of Medical Journal Editors [ICMJE], and/or journal/conference-specific instructions) and internal compliance guidelines.
• Perform targeted literature/reference searches and support the generation of other technical documentation as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in biomedical/life sciences or quantitative field with relevant scientific or clinical background.
• Working knowledge in one of these areas: real-world data/evidence (RWD/RWE), human genomics, clinical research concepts, computational biology (machine learning, statistics, algorithms, bioinformatics), and/or oncology.
• Exceptional scientific writing, editing, verbal communication, and organization skills.
• Experience writing and submitting manuscripts, abstracts, grants, or other technical documents to conferences, journals, and funding agencies, along with a track record of success.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize, interpret, and translate primary scientific literature for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
• Working knowledge with GPP and ICMJE guidelines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity and a general openness to using generative AI tooling.
• Familiarity with health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), multi-omic data types, hereditary/germline testing, and/or clinical development.
• Understanding of genomic data types, archiving standards, and best practices for data and code reproducibility.
• Proven ability to manage multi-faceted research projects to successful completion.
• Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator.
• Comfortable working with in-person and remote team members.

The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
