Job Description

Indian Rocks Church and Christian School is seeking a dedicated part-time School Traffic Guard. Under the general direction of the security team, this position performs routine work assisting with school traffic flow during daily school drop-off and pick-up to improve efficiency and help prevent hazardous traffic situations.

  • Student Safety: Assures the safety of students and parents in high-traffic areas.
  • Traffic Monitoring: Monitors street crossings during the hours when students are going to and from school.
  • Scan & Monitor Safety: Maintain alertness for speeding or reckless vehicles, particularly in busy drop-off/pick-up lanes.
  • Report Incidents: Record and report violating motorists (e.g., speeding, illegal turns) and unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • School Zone Management: Sets out and removes cones and signage in designated school zone areas.
  • Attendance: Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of basic traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to school zones.
  • Communication & Management: Ability to communicate specific instructions clearly, firmly, and courteously. Ability to command the respect of children, develop a positive relationship with them, and show an interest in children's safety.
  • Traffic Control: Ability to effectively provide approaching road users with clear instruction during the entire crossing movement.
  • Situational Awareness: Ability to recognize potentially dangerous traffic situations and warn parents and students in sufficient time to avoid injury. Ability to exercise mature judgment in emergencies.

Physical Abilities: The physical abilities listed below are requirements to perform the essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Good physical condition and dependability, including sight, hearing, and the ability to move and maneuver quickly in order to avoid danger from errant vehicles.
  • Stand up to 2 hours per day.
  • Walk up to 2 hours per day.
  • Lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Bend, squat, reach, kneel, and twist.
  • Endure exposure to temperature and other weather extremes.

  • Must give testimony and evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and sense the call of God to a serving ministry.
  • Demonstrate a consistent Christian lifestyle as referenced by the; the Mission, Statement of Faith, and Leadership Guidelines of Indian Rocks
  • Must be an active member of Indian Rocks as defined by regular attendance in worship services, regular attendance/involvement in an Indian Rocks Connection Group or Small Group, commitment to systematic stewardship, and faithful in tithing.
