School To Work - Mechanical Engineering – Brake Engineering

This professional will be introduced to activities related to engineering projects in Brakes Engineering, where they will be supporting in the design process as well as sustaining activities that support engineering in analyzing and problem-solving vendor, manufacturing, and customer field questions. They will develop and strengthen skills in problem solving, product design and development, designing for manufacturing and quality of current and future products within Brakes Engineering across all stages of the product life cycle.

In this role, you will be involved with the following:

The design of various brake platforms in the North America commercial vehicle market from S-cam and Wedge drum brakes to the EX+ disk brakes.

Brake design, 3D modeling and 2D detail drawing, workflow process of releasing new products and usage of all necessary Engineering tools for design, such as, DFMEA, DFM/DFA, statistical analysis, test reports, design review and tech reviews and DVP&R (Design validation Plan and Report).

Support engineers in coordinating and negotiating with brake lab activities including:

  • Developments, priorities and follow up on tests.
  • Track and manage test parts
  • Research activities.
  • Inspections on service parts or field returns investigation.
  • Create technical test reports.
  • Responsible to open and manage PO’s for brake engineering and other Engineering areas.
  • Understand and apply best practices and contribute to improve them.
  • Be compliant and understand Safety procedures to guarantee a safer environment to work.
  • Ensure timely completion of all project objectives.
  • Creating a positive attitude, quick learner and a team player with diverse ideas and viewpoints.
  • Understand and interpret drawings dimensions, geometric tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Contribute effectively toward team goals and work as a team member to ensure project completion.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Able to work as team player supporting cross-functional groups.
  • Excellent presentation skills, communication and proactive.
  • Committed to learning and focused on delivering project tasks.
  • Problem solving mindset.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and statistical tools.
  • 3D/2D model software - Creo desired.

Education, Licenses, Certification

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Currently a student in college or university pursuing bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or appropriate STEM field. Min. of 2 semester’s completion. highly preferred (4 semesters completed is a plus).
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

  • School to work Position – Hourly - 25 to 30 hours/week.
