School Standards & Improvement Officer: Attendance, Family & Community

Location: Based in Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Yorkshire and the Humber & the East Midlands supporting our local schools and communities. The successful candidate must be flexible to travel across all of Outwood Grange Academies Trust schools as required.

This is a prestigious role for an expert practitioner passionate about driving the highest standards of student engagement and removing barriers to learning.

The Opportunity

In this strategic position, you will be the driving force behind attendance quality and family engagement. Working alongside school leaders and the Trust’s Strategic Attendance Lead, you will ensure rapid improvements in attendance levels and a significant reduction in persistent and severe absence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategy & Policy: Influencing and developing Trust-wide policies while ensuring the effective operation of attendance and punctuality strategies.
  • Leadership & Coaching: Motivating and coaching school leaders and attendance teams to achieve "Ambition without limit."
  • Intervention: Assessing needs and implementing creative, solution-focused actions to support students and parents/carers.
  • Safeguarding: Identifying children in need of support and working with external agencies to safeguard vulnerable students.
  • Legal & Statutory Compliance: Overseeing Local Authority procedures for Children Missing Education (CME), preparing reports for court proceedings, and acting as a witness if required.

About You

You are a specialist in attendance with a proven track record of impact at a leadership level.

Our ideal candidate possesses:

  • Qualifications:
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of DfE attendance codes, statutory frameworks, and safeguarding responsibilities and leading and attendance team.
  • Analytical Skills: The strategic mindset to identify absence patterns and use education software to prepare complex data assessments.
  • Communication: The ability to build partnerships with external organisations and communicate professionally with families and staff.
  • Flexibility: A proactive approach and the ability to travel between academies within the Trust.
  • The successful candidate must have a full UK driving license and access to a personal vehicle.

The School Standards & Improvement Officer drives attendance across Trust academies by identifying at-risk pupils and implementing tailored family interventions, including home visits.

You will ensure statutory compliance with safeguarding and Local Authority procedures while collaborating with external agencies and leading attendance panels. By analysing data and coaching school staff, you will proactively remove barriers to learning, ensuring all students maximise their educational opportunities through consistent attendance.

To secure this role, you must demonstrate a proven track record in a leadership capacity focused on student attendance and reducing persistent absence. Essential qualifications include Level 3 Safeguarding and evidence of professional development in attendance management.

You should possess in-depth knowledge of DfE statutory frameworks, Local Authority procedures for CME/EHE, and the Education Act (1996). Experience in data analysis, family engagement, and preparing legal witness statements is vital. Candidates must be solution-focused, able to travel between academies, and committed to breaking down barriers to student success.
