Summary:   Responsible to evaluate the speech and language status of the students with speech and language disabilities and prescribe and implement programs of therapeutic benefit to a caseload of students.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:
- Administer services by implementing programs directly, as per IEP mandates.
- Actively participate as an interdisciplinary team member.  Keep the team informed of evaluations and therapy results.
- Participate in the evaluation of students to determine the need for services.
- Maintain a schedule of mandated therapy sessions.  Duties include preparing and updating IEP’s, implementing treatment plans, and consulting with other Team members, including family members and others identified as involved parties.
- Maintain appropriate and complete documentation on sessions and goals.  Prepare and maintain progress notes and reports as required by the Agency.
- Conduct formal evaluations of speech and language functioning and prepare comprehensive reports of findings.
- Make appropriate recommendations for services based on evaluation findings.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend all correspondence, and memos.  Able to write reports, progress notes, monthlies, schedules, attendance, tracking and monitoring sheets, etc.
- Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position.
- Attendance/Punctuality is consistent at work and on time.  Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.  Arrive at meetings and appointments on time.
- Will attend all required meetings, both staff and student related.

Supervisory Responsibilities:    May be required to supervise student interns, speech therapists or CFY candidates at the discretion of the agency.

Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology
- NYS Licensure; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology; NYS Certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Impaired or Speech- Language Disorder
- Experience with Developmentally Disabled
- Pediatric population preferred
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear.   Walk to and from various locations in the buildings.  May need to stoop, bend, and sometimes lift or push wheelchairs of children being served.  Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
Generally, there are no specific work environment issues to deal with, although there are some sites where there are stairs that need to be navigated.
