School Social Worker
Pinewood Elementary School

Full time position (1.0 FTE)
Position available: August 24, 2026

The School Social Worker is a vital member of the student support team who promotes the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of all students. This position serves both general education and special education students by providing direct services, supporting families, collaborating with school staff, and connecting students with resources that remove barriers to learning.

The School Social Worker works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and community agencies to develop and implement supports that foster student well-being, engagement, and success.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct social work services to general education and special education students, including services outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations, IEP development, and progress monitoring for students receiving special education services.
  • Serve as a member of student support teams, including MTSS and problem-solving teams, to identify student needs, develop interventions, monitor progress, and use data to inform decisions.
  • Provide individual and small group support, crisis intervention, and social-emotional skill development.
  • Consult and collaborate with staff to implement effective behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health supports.
  • Build strong partnerships with families and connect them with school and community resources to support student success.
  • Promote positive school climate, student engagement, attendance, and overall well-being through prevention and early intervention efforts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with professional, legal, and ethical standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the school's mission and goals.

Licensure:

  • Current licensure through the Minnesota Board of Social Work required
  • Current School Social Worker license with the Minnesota Department of Education required


Experience:

  • Preferred-three years of experience in social work
  • Experience working with elementary age school students
  • Experience/training with CLR (Culturally Linguistically Responsive) methods preferred

Essential Skills Required:

  • Effective communication and teaming skills, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community and staff
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and ethical practices
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students and families
  • Experience working with diverse students and families
  • Assist with supervision of students during non-academic education activities

Salary Range: $45,921- $93,884
