Job Description

Position

While under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Education, the School Psychologist will support and promote Heritage

Academy Schools instructional program in a learning environment that motivates and guides students to develop and fulfill their

academic potential. The School Psychologist, together with teachers, administrators, and other specialists, will evaluate and design

effective programs for children who face social or emotional problems, developmental or learning disorders, and/or disabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Follow professional best practices and district procedures in identification, evaluation, and placement of potential special

education students and re-evaluation of students previously found eligible for special education services.

Contribute to the objectives of the school.

Assist school staff to analyze student behavior and provide positive behavioral supports.

Assist in understanding of student differences and individual student needs.

Encourage and assist in the development of programs to provide special education help needed by students.

Assist teachers in the development of appropriate classroom interventions for instructional, behavioral, and mental health

needs of students.

Communicate effectively with families and involve families in making decisions regarding their children’s educational needs.

Provide services as indicated in a student’s IEP or 504 plan.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student health and academic records.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths:

Education: Master’s degree in School Psychology related field required; Ph.D or Psy.D preferred

Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a School Psychologist in an education environment

Special Skills:

● School Psychologist Certification by Arizona Department of Education or Psychologist License by Arizona State Board of

Psychologist Examiners required.

● Demonstrate strong understanding of federal, state, and local rules, regulations, policies, and laws.

● Ability to enforce high standards of behavior, dress, and character in oneself and with students.

● Excellent communication and organization skills.

● Professional and friendly disposition

● Proficient with computers and software applications including Microsoft Office tools and Google Suite.

Type of fingerprint clearance: Shall be fingerprint checked pursuant to A.R.S 15-512. Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Card

required prior to starting.

Physical functions: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other

office equipment. Reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Equipment used:

Frequent computer use is expected.

Work Environment:

Typical office environment is expected, occasional exposure to outdoor weather. May be required to travel to

other campuses on occasion; up to 50% in some weeks.
