Assistant Lecturer – Product Design
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Support the delivery of high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment activities across undergraduate programmes.
Deliver tutorials, studio sessions, workshops, practical classes, and small-group learning activities under the guidance of Module Leaders and Course Directors.
Support students in developing creative, technical, and professional Product Design skills through project-based learning.
Assist with assessment activities, including marking, moderation, and providing constructive feedback in accordance with University regulations.
Support students in preparing design portfolios, presentations, prototypes, and exhibition work.
Tutorials, Technical Support and Learning Resources
Plan and deliver tutorials that reinforce module learning outcomes and practical design skills.
Provide technical guidance to students in the use of industry-standard Product Design software and workshop facilities.
Support students in the use of software and technologies such as:
Rhino 3D
Fusion 360
KeyShot
Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
3D Printing
Laser Cutting
CNC and rapid prototyping equipment
Assist in preparing teaching materials, workshop demonstrations, online learning resources, and practical exercises.
Support the safe operation of design studios, fabrication workshops, digital laboratories, and specialist equipment in accordance with health and safety procedures.
Student Experience and Curriculum Support
Support curriculum delivery and continuous enhancement activities.
Assist with exhibitions, design showcases, competitions, Open Days, outreach activities, guest lectures, and industry events.
Support students in developing employability skills and professional portfolios.
Provide academic support and contribute to personal tutoring where appropriate.
Academic Quality and Professional Practice
Participate in quality assurance and quality enhancement activities.
Maintain current knowledge of Product Design trends, manufacturing technologies, sustainability, materials, and digital design tools.
Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to improving teaching practice.
Industry Engagement and Collaboration
Support relationships with industry partners through live briefs, exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative projects.
Assist with knowledge-exchange activities that strengthen links between academia and industry.
Academic Administration
Contribute to module administration, student records, committees, School meetings, and curriculum support activities.
Support module leaders and course directors with operational and academic responsibilities.
Additional Duties
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade, responsibilities, and purpose of the role as reasonably required by the University.
Participate in extracurricular activities to enhance student learning and experience.
