DESCRIPTION:
Ensures the efficient operation of the school cafeteria; supervises staff; orders foods and supplies; oversees food planning, preparation and service; supervises point-of-sale terminal operation and financial reporting, and performs related work as required. May provide food services for one or more satellite site/ sites and/or operates a cluster school/ schools or a high volume location. Ensures compliance with all applicable District and Board policies and procedures and State, Federal regulations.
Trainee Qualifications: Requires High School diploma or GED; Plus, two (2) years of experience in institutional food service and experience in food service supervision; must obtain ServSafe certification or Completion of the Tennessee Department of Education - Food Safety and Schools Certificate Program) within one year. Upon successful completion of one year with ServSafe certification incumbent promotes from trainee to Supervisor School Nutrition. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).
Degree Equivalency Formula
Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.

Cluster School A school cafeteria that serves less than 250 meals and cannot financially support a supervisor. School cafeteria located within a two (2) mile radius that can serve as the base school.
Satellite School: A school where Shelby County Schools is the Food Source Authority such as charter schools, private schools, and parochial schools.
Supper Program: A school that provides afterschool supper meals for Extended Learning Opportunities Program or At-Risk Supper to students after school
Breakfast in the Classroom A school that provides breakfast meals to the entire student population or multiple grades at the school.
